James Jones of Tibradden
1 John Jones second son of James Jones of Tibradden and grandson of Richard Davis of
Cloragh and Tibradden born circa 1807. He married Mary Marchbank in 1836 in Dublin.
Mary was the daughter of Robert Marchbank and Susan Elizabeth Davis. Mary died
29 Oct 1867 at Carlisle Terrace, Malahide aged 61 and is buried at Stillorgan. John was
living at James’ Terrace, Malahide in 1867 and at Highfield Road in 1879. He died
30 Nov 1892 at St Cloud (now Sunnyside), Kilternan and is buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
The informant his son in law Michael Byrne and probate to his daughter Anna Maria
Byrne of St Cloud.
1 Anna Mary Jones born circa 1839. She was living at Highfield Road, Rathgar and
married Michael Byrne on 28 Jul 1881 at Mathias' Church. Michael was 10 years
her junior and the son of Thomas Byrne. She died 1 Mar 1895 at 92 Rathgar Road
and is buried at Stillorgan. She left 1k in personal estate and probate was to John
Wickliffe Jones of 10 Oswald Terrace, Fulford.
2 John Wickliffe Jones born 1 Mar 1840. He was an acting assistant surgeon in the
Royal Navy and resigned his commission in 1864. He was a staff, assistant surgeon
with the fifth Dragoon Guards and married Esther Sandys on 22 Jun 1870 at Lusk
Parish Church. Esther was resident at Rush and was the only child of Henry Cole
Sandys of Glenville, Co Antrim and his wife Mary Lyle of Oak Lodge Co Antrim. She
was the niece of the late Acheson Lyle, Master in Chancery of The Oaks,
Londonderry. Esther died 6 May 1871 aged 28, a few days after giving birth at 58
Rathgar Road. John was an assistant surgeon with the 5th (Princess Charlotte of
Wales) Dragoon Guards.
1 Esther Allen Lyle Jones only child born 3 May 1871 at 58 Rathgar Road died
3 Nov 1872 at Marino Lodge, Merrion Avenue and was buried at Stillorgan
Graveyard. Her father resident at Barracks, Ashton under Lyne, Tameside,
Greater Manchester the informant.
John secondly married Harriet Anna Key on 23 Aug 1875 at Fulford parish Church,
York. Harriet was the daughter of the late Rev Samuel Key of Fulford Hall, York. By
1876 he had attained the rank of Surgeon Major and retired in half pay in 1877. He
died 4 May 1897 at York and was buried at Fulford, Yorkshire, probate to Harriet.
The children and Harriet were living 23, St Marys, York in 1901 and at Bishopthorp,
Near York in 1911.
2 Harriet Mab Major iBanks Jones baptised on 7 Oct 1877 at Garrison Church,
Fulford, Yorkshire living with her mother in 1901.
3 William Henry Key Reginald Jones baptised 25 Feb 1881 at Denbighshire,
Wales. He was a locomotive engineer in 1901 and served with the Royal Army
Ordnance Corps during WW1.
4 Violet Key Jones born 17 Jun 1882 at Poplar Square, Naas. She was a writer
and suffragette and was jailed a number of times for malicious destruction
(damage to widows etc) and served time in Holloway Prison. Violet aka the
Railway Suffragette lived at Oswald Terrace in York and her home became a
safe house for suffragettes. Violet continued campaigning for women's rights
after the act of 1918 (The Representation of the People) was passed and she
worked as general and organising secretary of the Women's Industrial League.
She died in 1958 in Bradford and was buried at Scholemoor Cemetery.
5 Gilbert Key Jones born 25 May 187 at Goldsmith Terrace, Bray in Co Wicklow
took Holy orders and died in 1956.
3 Richard Lionel Jones second son born circa 1841. He was a civil engineer and worked
on various railways in England. He died 4 Nov 1879 at Earl’s Court Road, South
Kensington and is buried at Stillorgan. Probate to his father.
4 Susan Hannah Jones died 21 Jun 1845 and is buried at Stillorgan.
5 Susan Amelia Jones died 24 Nov 1846 and is buried at Stillorgan.
6 Sarah Maria Jones died 29 Jul 1856 and is buried at Stillorgan.
2 James Jones youngest son of James Jones of Tibradden born circa 1811 was a merchant. He
married Elizabeth Mary.
1 Charles James Jones born at Bloomfield Avenue baptised 26 Jun 1839 at St Peters.
2 Adelaide Elizabeth Jones born at Bloomfield Avenue baptised 17 May 1840 at St Peters
died unmarried at 125 Rathgar Road on 29 Mar 1929 at 125 Rathgar Road.
3 Louis Frederick Jones born at Bloomfield Avenue baptised 5 Dec 1841 at St Peters.
He was of New York and secondly married Sarah Martin on 31 Jan 1851 at St Catherine’s,
Dublin. Sarah was the second daughter of James Martin of Athlone. He traded as James Jones
& Son of 15 Parliament Street and they were inventors, patentees and manufacturers. They
were also agents and manufacturers of the American fire hose. Sarah died 7 Jul 1895 at 125
Rathgar Road and James died same place on 14 Dec 1897.
4 James Lionel Jones youngest son baptised at Catherine’s Dublin on 4 Sep 1859. He
was a commercial clerk of 125 Rathgar Road and married Anna Elizabeth (Annie)
Cooke on 29 Jun 1886. He was a wire bound hose manufacturer of 15 Parliament
Street and worked with Richard Trulock on improving tyres for bicycles and road
vehicles. He died 30 Jan 1899 at his residence 7 Windsor Terrace, Kingstown. He left
8k in personal estate in England and Ireland, probate to his wife. Annie was living at
Palmerston Gardens in 1911.
1 Lionel James Jones born 19 May 1887 at 48 Frankfort Avenue, Rathgar.
2 Irene Elizabeth Jones born at 48 Frankford Avenue, baptised at Harold's Cross
on 8 Aug 1890.
3 Anna Jones born circa 1815 died unmarried at 1 Auburn Ville, Rathgar formerly of Rehoboth
Place, Dublin on 30 Jul 1881.

James Jones of Tibradden
1 John Jones second son of James Jones of Tibradden and grandson of Richard Davis of
