Edward Kennedy of Townpark, a grocer, publican and tobacco & snuff manufacturer of Cavan
in the late 1840s. He married Catherine Brady on 06.04.1840 at St Catherine’s, Dublin. By
1846 he was selling manure, seeds, oats and meal from Main Street, Cavan. He was employing
150 people in 1872 and held about 1000 acres in 1876. Catherine died at her residence at 7
Farnham Street, Cavan on 08.06.1875. Edward was chairman of the Cavan Town
Commissioners and vice chair of the Cavan Gas Company. Edward Kennedy formerly of Cavan
died at 4 Castle Avenue on 06.09.1885 and is buried at Glasnevin. Probate was to his son Hugh.
1 James Patrick Kennedy born circa 1841. In 1875 James and his brother Edward were
trading as J & E Kennedy, Tobacco Manufacturers of Cavan and 88/9 Amiens Street.
James of 89 Amiens Street married Maria Fitzhenry of 71 Lower Gardiner Street
26.03.1879 at the Pro Cathedral, Dublin. Witnesses Joseph E Kenny and Lizzie Kenny.
Maria was the daughter of David Fitzhenry. They lived at Rockville, Dundrum from
1884 to 1887. James died 06.05.1888 aged 47 years at Barnhill, Dalkey and is buried at
Glasnevin. He left 25k in personal estate.
1 Ethel Constance Kennedy born 30.09.1880 at 60 Lansdowne Road, Dublin only
child died on 26.11.1881 aged 1 year 3 months at same place.
2 Kathleen Hilda Kennedy of 60 Lansdowne Road baptised 02.04.1882 at St Mary’s,
Haddington Road. Hilda Kathleen died on 21.01.1892 aged 9 years at Spring Farm.

3 Walter Kennedy born 07.08.1884 at Rockville, Dundrum a qualified electrical
engineer in 1905.
4 Mildred Mary Kennedy born 20.01.1886 at Rockville, Dundrum. Mildred only
surviving daughter of James and step-daughter of William J Corbet of Spring Farm,
Delgany, Wicklow married Michael F Dalton 4th son of James Dalton of Orange, New
South Wales, Australia on 10.02.1904 at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Chapel, Kilquade.
Maria a widow married secondly William Joseph Corbet on 15.10.1890 at the Roman
Catholic Chapel of St Alphonsus, Ballybrack. William was a widower of Delgany, Wicklow
and the son of Robert Corbet. William died on 01.12.1909 aged 84 and is buried at
Glasnevin.

2 Hugh Peter Kennedy baptised 01.07.1842 at Urney, Cavan. He was sessional court solicitor
for Cavan in 1885 and was resident at Gardiner Street, Dublin, and Cavan. He married
Catherine Rose Mageniss in 1875 at Holborn, London.
1 Vincent Paul Kennedy born 15.02.1876 at Cavan was a solicitor and nationalist politician.
He was MP for West Cavan from 1904 to 1918.
3 Michael Kennedy baptised 01.07.1842 at Urney, Cavan.
4 Edward Joseph Kennedy baptised 15.12.1845 at Urney, Cavan. In 1875 Edward and his
brother James were trading as J & E Kennedy, Tobacco Manufacturers of Cavan and 88/9
Amiens Street. Edward married Margaret Mary Evangelina O’Connor of Dalkey, daughter of
John O’Connor on 08.09.1886 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of the Assumption, Dalkey.
Edward was High Sheriff of Dublin in 1885 and was elected as an Irish Nationalist Member
of Parliament for South Sligo in 1887, resigning in 1888. He was Lord Mayor of Dublin in
1890/1. Edward died 09.09.1897 aged 51 years at Abbey View, Dalkey. He left 73k in
personal estate. The company and premises at Amiens Street were put up for sale in 1904.
They were purchased by T P & R Goodbody.

7 Roseanne (Rose Mary) Kennedy only daughter baptised 10.08.1849 at Urney, Cavan married
Lawrence Patrick Reynolds at St Francis Xavier Church in Dublin on 21.11.1877. Lawrence, a
JP of Dalystown House Longford was the son Lawrence Reynolds.
8 Arthur W Kennedy baptised 03.11.1852 at Urney, Cavan a solicitor of Cavan in 1885.
