John (Jack) Joyce was born on 22 Oct 1852, in Ardfry, Co Galway son of Pierce Joyce*, JP, DL
of Mervue Galway and Jane Mary Blake. He married Harriet St George on 9 Nov 1876, in
Ballinderreen, Co Galway. Harriet was the daughter of Christopher French St George and
Honoria Kane of Tudor House, Galway. They had eight children of whom seven survived in
1911. Jack, a barrister and landowner and died from pneumonia on 4 Feb 1920 at 35, West
94th Street, New York. Harriet died 16 Feb 1930 at St Michael's Hospital, Drumcondra. Both
are buried at Glasnevin.
1 Christopher Pierce Joyce eldest son baptised 30 Oct 1878 at the Pro Cathedral. He
was living at 71 Marlborough Road and was a farmer of Hungerford farm Rhodesia
and married Evelyn Maud Mulcahy at St Mary’s Haddington Road. Evelyn was the
daughter of James Mulcahy of Abbyview Clonmel. They had two children, one born
in Rhodesia and the other at Clonmel.
He secondly married Frances M Mulcahy on 16 Oct 1929 at St Mary’s Clonmel. Frances
was the daughter of the late James Prendergast Mulcahy of Clonmel.
2 Josephine Mary (Mollie) Joyce born 14 Mar 1880 at 23 Great Charles Street. She
married Frank Joseph Kennedy on 7 Apr 1929 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in
Donnybrook. Frank of Haddington Road was the second son of the late Hugh Vincent
Kennedy, solicitor.
3 John Aloysius Joyce born 28 Feb 1882 at Great Charles Street living with his mother in
Belvidere Place in 1911. He served during WW1 with the Connaught Rangers. He
emigrated to South Africa and worked for Crown Deep Mines in ore mining. He married
Josephine Mary Pim Bond on 27 Nov 1926. He returned to Ireland circa 1950 and died
a widower at 13 Anglesea Road in 1963.
4 Frederick Joseph Joyce third son born 28 Jul 1883 at Great Charles Street died
11 Apr 1885 at same place.
5 Francis Gordon (Gordon Francis) Joyce born 16 Feb 1885 23 Great Charles Street, Dublin
living with his mother in Belvidere Place in 1911. He was an insurance manager living at
Marlboro Road in Donnybrook and married Margaret Mary (Pearl) Stein on 2 Jun 1920
at Blackrock Church. Pearl was the daughter of the late Robert Francis Stein and Mary
Josephine McDonnell of Woodview, Mount Merrion Avenue. His mother in law was
renovating a house in 1921 at 3 Cross Avenue to move to but died suddenly from
pneumonia before it’s completion. They lived at Woodview from they time of their
marriage until 1941. Gordon was president of the Insurance Institute in 1929. Margaret
died at Woodview on 23 Aug 1934 and is buried at Glasnevin. Gordon retired after 40
years, 21 of those as manager from Eire Royal Exchange Assurance of College Green in
1949 and was appointed a director. He was also a keen gardener entering competitions
for fruit, veg and flowers with his gardener Mr C Dunne. Gordon had moved to 13
Anglesea Road in Ballsbridge by 1949 and died in 1963.

6 Norah Annie Mary Joyce baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 16 July 1886. She was
living at Marlboro Road and married Robert Devine 11 Jun 1923.
7 Victoria Mary Theresa St George Joyce was born on 29 Jul 1888 at 16 Mountjoy Square,
Dublin. She married Clarence Griffith Mark on 6 Feb 1924 in New York City. She was
living at Morris Township, Morris, New Jersey in 1940. She returned to Ireland to visit
her brother Gordon in 1962.
8 Matilda St George Joyce born 12 Apr 1891 at 8 Gardiners Place. She married William
Moreland Alexander on 3 Feb 1925, in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. She was living in New
York in 1918 and Cook County in 1940.
