John Power born circa 1807. He was resident at Dame Street and married Catherine (Kate)
Codd at Rockville Rathmines on 7 Nov 1837. Kate was the eldest daughter of the late Francis
Codd of Townsend Street and Patrick Curtis was a witness. John was a stockbroker of 42
Dame Street in partnership with Patrick Curtis. The partnership was dissolved in 1846 and
John went in business on his own account and had his offices at 22 Fownes Street. John
died at Netley, Blackrock on 7 Jun 1856 and is buried at Glasnevin. Catherine died
11 Nov 1888 at 3 Seapoint Terrace, Monkstown late of 3 Castle Terrace, Dalkey and is buried
at Glasnevin. Her executrix was Mary Theresa Power of 2 Old Brighton, Monkstown spinster.
1 John Power baptised 17 Jul 1838 at Rathmines.
2 Catherine Maria (Kate Mary) Power eldest daughter baptised on 8 Dec 1840 at
Rathmines. She married Charles Aloysius Coppinger on 9 Apr 1883 at the Church of the
Assumption, Dalkey. Charles was the fourth son of the late Francis Hely Coppinger
and his first wife Jane Teresa Russell of Monkstown Castle. His father died in 1882 and
left 72k in personal estate. Charles died 4 Apr 1893 at 2 Old Brighton, Monkstown late
of 3 Castle Terrace, Dalkey aged 56 and is buried in the O’Connell Circle at Glasnevin
with his father. His widow Kate was his executor.
3 Francis Richard (Frank) Power second son baptised 10 Jun 1843 at Rathmines. He was
a stock broker and married Mary Irwin on 29 Apr 1878 at St Andrew’s, Westland Row.
Mary was the youngest daughter of john Irwin, JP of Raheen, Co Roscommon. Francis
died 6 Apr 1892 died 12 Prince Edward Terrace, Blackrock, his wife his executor. He is
buried at Glasnevin. Three of their six children survived until 1911.
1 Mary Power born 2 Feb 1879 was a governess living with her widowed mother at
Montpelier Avenue in 1901. She married Dr George E Pugin Meldon on
9 Sep 1903 at Booterstown Church. Mary died 12 May 1908 at Baggot Street.
George was living at 68 Lower Baggot Street in 1911 with their four children.
2 Francis Plunket Power 10 Jun 1881 at 1 Grove Avenue, Stillorgan. Francis was a
bank clerk living with his widowed mother at Montpelier Avenue in 1901.
3 John Irwin Power born 26 Mar 1883 at 1 Grove Avenue was a clerk in working for
the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway in 1901.
4 Eliner Mary Eugenie Power born 22 May 1884 at Prince Edward Terrace died
same place on 14 Sep 1884.
5 Cecelia Mary Power born 21 Jul 1885 at 8 Lower Prince Edward Terrace living with
her widowed mother at Montpelier Place in 1911. She married Joseph McCan on
7 Apr 1920 at St Mary’s Church, Haddington Road. Joseph was a farmer living at
Ballyowen House, Cashel Co Tipperary and the son of Francis McCan.
4 Maria Theresa Power baptised 16 Feb 1845 at Rathmines a spinster in 1888 living at 2
Old Brighton Terrace.
5 Elizabeth (Niti) Power youngest daughter baptised 13 Apr 1847 at Rathmines. She
died unmarried on 20 Aug 1910 at 2 Old Brighton, Monkstown and is buried at
Glasnevin. Her sister K M Coppinger the informant.
