John McDonnell Green born 12 Dec 1822 at Mullahead, Lurgan son of William John Green, a
farmer and his wife Isabella Eliza Sinton. He was a corn merchant of Kenilworth Square in
Dublin when he married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Banks on the 24 Apr 1867 at the Friends Meeting
House at Duncan Street, Cork. Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of the late Adam Banks, a
tea dealer of Cork and his wife Anna Boardman. John was a managing director of The Dublin
Granaries Company of Burgh Quay by 1875 and they initially lived at 40 Kenilworth Square
before moving to Fernbank in 1873. He died 26 Jun 1888 at Fernbank, Dundrum and left 20k
in personal estate. He is buried at Temple Hill. Elizabeth died 31 Oct 1917 at Fernbank,
Dundrum and is buried at Temple.
1 Lilian Green born 9 Aug 1868 at Kenilworth Square. Lilian was a lecturer and married
Samuel George Reeves on 21 Dec 1901 at the Friends Meeting House at Eustace Street.
Samuel living at Rathmines was a dental surgeon and the son of the late James Reeves.
They lived at 12 Clare Street. Samuel died at the Padua Nursing Home on Waterloo
Road on 5 Nov 1942 aged 92. Probate to Rev William Packenham and Alan Thompson.
Lilian died a widow at Bloomfield late of Rathgar on 17 Oct 1951.
1 Lilian Phyllis Copestake Reeves born 26 Sep 1902 at Rathmines. She married Rev
William Alfred Packham on 12 Jan 1927 at St Ann’s Church, Dublin. Canon Packham
died at the Rectory, Enniscorthy on 25 May 1949. After his death Lilian worked as a
teacher and was in South Africa in 1958.
2 Frances Sylvia Reeves born 26 Jan 1904 at 12 Clare Street married Alan Thompson.
3 Samuel George Reeves born 3 Jan 1906 at 12 Clare Street married Muriel Gilchrist on
15 Aug 1942 at Christ Church, Taney.
4 Elizabeth Beatrice Noel Reeves born 21 Dec 1912 at died 2 Aug 1923 at Clare Street.
2 Amy Green second daughter born 4 Sep 1869 at 40 Kenilworth Square, Rathgar died
7 Jan 1888 at Fernbank and is buried at the Friends Burial Ground, Temple Hill.
3 William Hubert Green only son born 9 Apr 1871 at Kenilworth Square. He worked for
Messrs Crowe Wilson before working for insurance brokers Mcreedy Percy & Co. He was
an enthusiastic cyclist and a cycle camper. He drowned off Howth Head on 1 Apr 1907
along with three friends, who were all quakers, when the yacht they were on capsized.
He was a bachelor and was survived by his widowed mother and three sisters. By August
1907 he was declared dead although his body had not been found.
4 Anna Isabella Green born February 1873 at Kenilworth Square died 10 Oct 1873 at
Fernbank.
5 Kathleen Green born circa 1875 died unmarried on 20 Mar 1943 at Fitzwilliam Place late of
Fernbank and left 8k in personal estate. Her niece Sylvia Thompson, wife of Alan
Thompson the informant and the next occupiers of Fernbank.
6 Mabel Elizabeth Green born 18 Apr 1877 at Fernbank. She was a teacher living with her
mother in 1901. She married John Arthur (Arthur) Higgins on 29 Jun 1910 at Taney Parish
Church. John was a civil servant of Cape Town, South Africa and the son of John Higgins, a
contractor. Mabel was visiting her mother in 1911 and in 1926 their children were living
with Kathleen at Fernbank. Mabel died a widow at Bloomfield, Donnybrook on 7 Aug 1967.
1 Elizabeth Sandle Higgins born 2 Jun 1911 at Fernbank when her father was resident
at Herchal Villa, Feldhausan Road, Claremond, Cape Colony. Elizabeth was living with
her aunt Kathleen at Fernbank in 1926.
2 John McDonnell Higgins born 15 Aug 1917 at Harcourt Street while his father was
living at Fernbank. He was living with his aunt Kathleen at Fernbank in 1926. He saw
service with the Merchant Navy, Service number R253487 during WWII.
