James Byrne born circa 1816 was a gardener. He worked as a gardener for William Dargan of
Mount Anville winning numerous prizes for his employer and often employed as a judge for the
RHS. Dargan sold the house to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1865 and James continued in
his job. He was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church, Dundrum. He died 9 Dec 1883 at ‘the
Garden House’, Mount Anville having completed nearly 40 years of service at there. His daughter
Nellie was the informant and he was buried at Glasnevin. Ellen died at 10 Beresford Place on
18 Oct 1915, her son John the informant. She was buried with her husband at Glasnevin.
1 William Byrne born circa 1852 worked as a gardener at Mount Anville. He was married
and died just a week after his father on 17 Dec 1883 at the Garden House. Informant
Nellie Byrne. He was buried at Glasnevin.
2 Margaret Byrne born 14 Apr 1856 at Mount Anville baptised at Holy Cross, Dundrum.
Margaret died 4 Jun 1878 at Mount Anville and was buried at Glasnevin.
3 John Byrne born 15 May 1858 baptised at Holy Cross was a gardener. He was a bachelor
living with his mother and sister Ellen in 1911.
4 James Byrne born 3 Aug 1860 at Mount Anville baptised at Holy Cross. He was a cabinet
maker and married Mary. He died 31 Mar 1890 at 13 Townsend Street and was buried at
Glasnevin.
5 Mary Byrne born 14 Apr 1862 at Mount Anville baptised at Holy Cross.
6 Ellen (Nellie) Byrne born 17 Feb 1865 at Mount Anville baptised at Holy Cross, a spinster
living with her brother John and mother at Rathmines in 1911.
