Frederick born 24 Jan 1818 baptised at 3 May 1818 St Alfege, Greenwich, son of Matthew Isacke, a
captain in the East India Company Sea Services and his wife Margaret Steell. He joined the 5th Foot,
9th Regiment Light Dragoons and attained the rank of captain by 1842. He was resident at
Greenwich and married Mary Turner Fortescue at St Mary’s Church, Donnybrook on 23 Jun 1846.
Mary was the eldest daughter of Matthew Fortescue and Erskine Christie who were resident at
Belvedere, Sandymount and Wilton Square. She was also the granddaughter of the Hon Matthew
Fortescue of Devonshire Place, London. Frederick sold out of the EIC Service in 1848. The family
attended St John’s Church in Sandymount and they were passionate gardeners. Frederick was a
member of the RHS and won numerous awards with his gardeners. Frederick, Hon treasurer of
Phoenix Cricket Club died 30 May 1885 at Woodview and was buried at Mount Jerome. He was
buried with his parents in law at Mount Jerome. Mary died 13 Nov 1911 and was buried with her
husband.

2 Matthew Fortescue Isacke born circa 1850 in Middlesex, England was a gentleman farmer
in 1911. Matthew died a bachelor on 7 Jul 1912 at Woodview. John Bagnal a servant was
the informant.
3 Erskine Mary Isacke born 21 Dec 1850 at Pembroke Road, Dublin died 17 Apr 1851 at
Pembroke Road and was buried at Mount Jerome.
4 Mary Erskine born 28 Feb 1853 at Woodview married James Frederick Edmeades at St
Mary’s Church Donnybrook on 1 Feb 1883. James was the son of the Rev William Henry
Edmeades. Lieut Colonel James Frederick Edmeades, MVO, died at Hazells, Southfleet,
Kent, on 6 Feb 1917 and was buried at Saint Mildred’s Churchyard, Nurstead in Kent. Mary
died 14 Nov 1927 at Hazells. She was interred with her husband and is remembered on
the family headstone in Mount Jerome.
5 Margaret Isacke born September 1854 at Woodview. Margaret was involved in the week
long Araby Fete held in Ballsbridge in 1894 which raised money for Jervis Street Hospital
and which 100K people visited. She was also on the board of governors of the Orthopaedic
Hospital at Brunswick Street. She married David Coffey, a Roman Catholic at the Registrar’s
Office in Dublin on 3 Feb 1902. David was a clerk in the Land Commission and the son of
David Coffey. They lived at Leeson Park in 1911 and had no children.
6 Frederick Isacke born 26 Sep 1856 at Woodview a bank clerk in 1901 was on the
committee of Donnybrook Lawn Tennis Club in 1898. Frederick died a bachelor on
5 Mar 1904 at Portobello Hospital and was buried at Mount Jerome.
