Henry Hutton of Dundrum, Lord Mayor of Dublin
Henry Hutton, son of Peter Hutton and Sarah Lewis born circa 1753 was a tanner and
leather cutter of Winetavern Street and was admitted a freeman of the City of Dublin under
the guild of Tanners in 1774. He married Susannah Barber on 8 Jul 1780 at St Michan’s.
Susannah was the daughter of Mr Barber and Elizabeth Barber. Henry became a Dublin
Sheriff in 1892. It is thought that Susannah died shortly after the birth of a child in 1793.
1 John Hutton only son born circa 1783 took Holy orders. He married Jane Burton on
27 Jan 1804 (ML). Jane was the daughter of EW Burton late of Clifton Co Clare and
the niece of Michael Blood, late of Ruxton, Co Clare and they had at least fifteen
children. They were living at Leeson Street in 1808. John was rector of Wyfordby
and died 25 May 1846 at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
1 Jane Hutton only surviving daughter born circa 1807 in Dublin died unmarried
on 7 Sep 1868 at Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
2 John Hutton third son born circa 1809 was a staff assistant surgeon to the 56th
regiment died in Jamaica in September 1834.
3 Michael Hutton born circa 1812 took Holy orders and was rector of Catherine
Hall, Cambridge. He married Mary Woodcock on 7 May 1839 at Syston,
Leicestershire.
2 Elizabeth Hutton first daughter mentioned in the land deed of 1802
3 Sarah Hutton second daughter born circa 1791 mentioned in the land deed of 1802. She
married Higginson Johnston an attorney on 3 Feb 1810 at St Peter’s Church.
4 Susanna Hutton born June 1793 Eccles Street married John Grattan Guinness on
14 Feb 1810. John was the son of Arthur Guinness and Olivia Whitmore. John was a
Captain in the 12th Regiment Native Infantry Madras Army. They lived at Mountjoy
Square and had at least five children. Susan died at Mount Vernon, Liverpool in
November1826. John remarried in 1829.
Henry took a lease on land at Dundrum in 1802 to build a house. He was an alderman and
appointed Lord Mayor Dublin in 1803/4 and retired as a magistrate in 1804. He secondly
married Olivia Mason on 3 Apr 1804 at St Peter’s. He was treasurer of St John’s Male and Female
Schools and retired after ten years in 1807. Henry died on 6 Feb 1808 at his house in Leeson
Street. In house near Dundrum was put up for sale after his death as was 17 Winetavern Street
and the tanyard at Mill Street. The stock in trade was auctioned.
5 Olivia Hutton born circa 1806 married Richard W Tibeaudo of Columbo Ceylon on
14 Jan 1829 at St Peter’s Church and they had at least seven children. Olivia died
27 Jul 1844 after giving birth to a daughter at Annagh Castle, Co Tipperary.
6 Emily Jane Hutton died at Sheriff White’s, Camden Street in September 1818.
7 Marianne Henry Hutton youngest daughter married Captain M Carmichael Smyth of the
Madras Light Cavalry at St Mary’s Church, Cheltenham in June 1831.
Olivia was living at Camden Street and secondly married Robert White on 27 Aug 1810 at St
Peter’s Church. Robert was of the firm of Hawkes, Mosely & Co of Grafton Street.
