Hudson family of Wyckham
Alderman Robert Henry Kinahan son of Daniel Kinahan and Julia Carr born 2 Oct 1799. He
married Charlotte Hudson daughter of Edward Hudson, MD (dentist) of The Fields of Odin,
Rathfarnham (which now houses the Pearse Museum) on 11.12.1822 at Rathfarnham
Church. Robert died 29.04.1861.
1 Daniel Hudson Kinahan of Merrion Square baptised August 1827 at St Peter’s, died aged
9 years and was buried on 13.09.1836 at St Mary’s.
2 Edward Hudson Kinahan 2nd and only surviving son born 27 Nov 1828 married Emily
Isabella daughter of Rev Daniel Dickinson, rector of Seapatrick on 12 May 1863 at Banbridge.
They lived at Wyckham, Dundrum from 1874. He was a senior partner in Kinahan & Sons,
Distillers, a commissioner of Irish Lights, a member of the Port & Docks Board and a director
of the Artisans Dwellings Company. Edward was created a Baronet on 26 Sep 1887 and
assumed by Royal licence the surname Hudson prefixed to his own in October that year. He
died on 8 Mar 1892 and left 154K in personal estate. The house was put up for sale by Lady
Hudson-Kinahan in 1896 and they moved to Glenville in Cork. Emily died 26 Dec 1919 at Bray,
Co Wicklow.
1 Edward Hudson Kinahan born 3 Nov 1865 at 11 Merrion Square became the second
Baronet and inherited Glenville Manor and the Glenville estate. He died a bachelor on
17 May 1938 at the Elpis Hospital, late of Glenville.
2 Margaretta Emily Kinahan born 6 Jan 1867 died 13 Jun 1873.
3 Charlotte Kinahan born 26 Dec 1868 at Merrion Square married Cornelius Richard O'
Callaghan at Taney Church on 22 Jan 1895. She died 6 Mar 1945.
4 Grace Elizabeth Kinahan born 18 Aug 1871 at Merrion Square married Spotswood
Bowles on 30 Nov 1899 at Glenville, Co Cork. Grace died in 1944.
5 Robert Henry Kinahan born 13 Sep 1872 at Merrion Square became the 3rd Baronet on
the death of his brother Edward. He died a bachelor on 26 Dec 1949 at St Patrick’s
Hospital, Dublin late of Glenville Manor, Cork and the title became extinct.
6 Emily Margaret Kinahan born 12 Jan 1875 at Merrion Square.
7 Gertrude Isabella Margaret (Daysie) Kinahan born 27 Feb 1876 married Robert John
Clifford Alexander on 1912. Daysie died in 1957.
8 Daniel Dickenson Kinahan born 26 Sep 1877 at Merrion Square in Dublin and lived at
Wyckham in Dundrum. He was educated at Cheam and Eton. During the South African
War, he served in the Irish Yeomanry, and at the outbreak of WW1 he joined the Scottish
Horse, and was with them until he transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Irish Guards in
August 1915. He was killed in action on 9 Apr 1916 and is remembered at the Menin
Road South Military Cemetery and on the Ireland, National Roll of Honour.
9 George Frederick Kinahan born 9 Aug 1879 was a Lt Colonel in Durham Light Infantry. He
married Alexandra Edith Hodgeson on 8 Oct 1919 at Rathfarnham Church. Alexandra
was the widow of Captain C A Hodgeson and the daughter of C Wisdom Hey of Oakland,
Rathgar. George died 26 Dec 1939 at Poole, Dorset.
10 Ellen Louisa Marie (Nellie) Kinahan born 18 Sep 1880 at Merrion Square married Harry
Vivian Hare on 30 Sep 1909 at Glenville, Co Cork. Ellen died 8 Feb 1969 at Aghern, Co
Cork.
11 Cecil Barton Kinahan youngest son born 13 Jun 1883 at Wyckham, Dundrum. He was a
lieutenant in the 4th (Uganda) Battalion King’s African Rifles and died from fever on
30 Dec 1915 in Nairobi, Kenya.
12 Aileen J Kinahan youngest daughter born 14 Jul 1884 at Wyckham married Major
Tristram Carlyon, DSO at St Michael’s Chester Square in July 1918.
3 Julia Kinahan of Merrion Square born 10.02.1833 baptised 1833 at St Peter’s Church married
James Glancy of Roscommon in 1864.
4 Frances Alicia born c1834 married Armstrong Todd 10.08.1852 at St Peter's Church.
5 Robert Kinahan of Merrion Square baptised 1836 at St Peter’s Church.
