David Hinchy/Henchy son of John Henchy (1709 -1787) of Cratloe, Co Clare. His mother died
in 1807 and was buried at Croaghane, Cratlow with his father. He married Margaret Carter
on 27 Jun 1776 at St Nicholas, Dublin (this may be a second marriage and his son Arthur may
be from the previous marriage). He was a grocer of 6 Leeson Street specialising in teas,
sugar, spirits and wines. He moved the business to 44 Bachelors Walk in 1783. He was
treasurer of the Charitable Josephian Society and of the Nursery for Orphans and Foundlings
Females in Paradise Row. He was president of the General Magdalen Asylum in Townsend
Street in 1805. He had many properties around Dublin and was the owner of Seafort House in
Williamstown which he purchased from the Green Knight in 1814. David died on 8 May 1820
at Rockfield and was buried at Kill O’ the Grange. Margaret died on 18 Aug 1829 aged 91 at
Rockfield, Newtown Park.
1 Arthur Hinchy married Margaret. Margaret was the niece of David Henchy. Arthur was
a grocer and wine merchant of 1 Cuffe Street corner of Richmond’s Hill. He was bankrupt
in 1801 and arrested for having pikes in 1803 after the failed rebellion and held at
Kilmainham. He was charged with treasonable practices and sentenced to 2 years which
he served in Kilmainham. The shop was still trading at Cuffe Street from 1804 to 1810.
Arthur died in October 1828. Margaret died on 10 Aug 1858 aged 84 at Jervis Street.
2 Mary Henchy born circa 1778 married Valentine O’Connor junior in December 1796.
Mary died in 1814.
