James Hammett born circa 1871 in Nova Scotia son of James Hammett, a gardener of Janeville,
Dundrum and his wife Mary. He was a coachman at Westbury and married Catherine Nolan
on 21 Jul 1895 at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum. Catherine was living at Westbury and was the
daughter of James and Mary Nolan. His father died in 1896 and was buried at Deansgrange.
James was a coachman working for Edmund Darley at Fernhill 1901 and for Sir James Murphy
of Yapton, Monkstown in 1911. They had three children of whom two survived in 1911. He
was working as a chauffeur at Mervyn, Enniskerry in 1914 for the Stoney family. His mother
died in 1919 and was buried with his father. By 1920 he was working as a coachman/butler
at St Helens, Booterstown living in the gatelodge. Catherine died at the gatelodge, St Helens
on 16 May 1927. Her son in law William Kelly the informant. She was buried at Deansgrange.
James died on 12 Sep 1937 at St Helen’s gatelodge and was buried with his wife.
1 Elizabeth (Lillie) Hammett born 30 Dec 1895 at 44 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin was a
dressmaker living with her parents in 1911 and working as a dressmaker.
2 Son Hammett born 1897 at Holles Street Hospital.
3 Mary Louisa Hammett born circa 1900 in Dublin was living with her parents in 1911. She
married William Michael Arthur Kelly on 4 Feb 1920 at Booterstown Church. William was a
clerk and the son of William Kelly, a shopkeeper. Elizabeth Hammett a witness.
1 Son Kelly born 14 Feb 1921 at St Helen’s, Booterstown.
2 William Kelly born 28 Feb 1922 at St Helen’s, Booterstown.
3 Mabel Kelly born circa 1933 died at the gatelodge in Booterstown on 1 Jan 1934.
4 Francis Joseph Hammett born 16 Jun 1914 at Mervyn, Powerscourt, Enniskerry.
