John Hackett of Dublin and Co Tipperary was a captain in the 8th Light Dragoons. He married
Sarah Pope in 1788. He was a land landowner in Clonmel, Co Tipperary. John died 21 Jul 1822
at 31 Gardiner Street, Dublin and was buried at St Mary’s. Sarah died at Lower Gloucester
Street in October 1850 and was buried at St Mary’s.
1 Frances Mitchell Hackett eldest daughter born circa 1789 died at Lower Gloucester
Street on 25 Jan 1837 and was buried at St Mary’s.
2 Sarah Winthrop Hackett born 2 Nov 1791 died 2 Feb 1892 in Bray and was buried with
her brother John in Mount Jerome.
3 Alicia Hackett born circa 1801 died unmarried at Lordello, Bray on 10 Oct 1849 and
was buried at St Marys.
4 Jane Hackett died unmarried in Dublin in May 1849 at Lower Gloucester Street and
was buried at St Marys.
5 Anne Hackett married Rev Franquefort of Waterford and died 11 Jan 1822.
6 John Winthrop Hackett born 31 Oct 1804 graduated Trinity and took Holy orders. He
married Jane Sophia Mason on 9 Mar 1842 at St George’s Church. Jane was the
daughter of Henry Joseph Monck Mason. John was pastor of St James Church, Bray for
48 years and died 23 Nov 1888 at Crinken, Co Dublin. He was buried in Mount Jerome.
Jane died 13 Sep 1895 and was buried with her husband. The family feature in the diary
of Rev Ernest Whelan.
1 Anne Frances Hacket born circa 1844 married Rev William Packenham-Walsh in
1870. William was later Bishop of Ossory.
2 Sarah Mary Hacket born circa 1846 married Captain Robert Telford Lefroy in 1890.
3 Jane Georgina Hackett (twin) third daughter born 4 Feb 1848 died 1 Feb 1862
and was buried at Mount Jerome.
4 John Winthrop Hackett (twin) eldest son born 4 Feb 1848 at Bray was was called to
the Irish bar in 1874. He emigrated to Sydney in 1875 where he was called to the
New South Wales that same year. He was Member of the Legislative Council in
1890 and editor/proprietor of West Australian and Western Mail newspapers and
was knighted in 1911.
5 Thomas Edmond Hackett born circa 1850 took Holy orders and was living at
Crinken in 1888.
6 Alicia Isabella Hackett born circa 1852 married Rev John B Crozier on
12 Sep 1877 at St Paul’s, Bray. John was the eldest son of Baptist Barton Crozier.
He was Archbishop of Armagh in 1911 and appointed Primate of All Ireland.
7 Henry Monck Mason Hackett born circa 1849 took Holy orders.
8 Georgina Josephine Hackett youngest daughter born 14 Nov 1856 died
unmarried on 20 Jun 1901 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
7 Nathaniel Anne Hackett born Christmas Day 1805 died unmarried on Advent Sunday on
1 Dec 1878 at Bray and was buried at Mount Jerome.
8 Richard Pope Hackett third son born circa 1809, admitted Kings Inns. He was a solicitor of
Bachelors Walk. He married Emily Elizabeth Millikin at Hanover Square London on
2 Sep 1840. Emily was the eldest daughter of the late John Millikin, surgical Instrument
maker of the Strand, London. Richard was in practice with Edward Love Alma of
Hawthorn and was solicitor to the Rathdown Union. Emily was on the Committee of Dublin
by Lamplight. They lived at Avoca Terrace and moved to Melville, Avoca Avenue in 1856 until
Richard put it up for sale in 1874. They lived at 1 Eaton Place, Seapoint, Monkstown in 1883/4.
Emily's mother Martha lived with them. When she died in 1883 she was buried in
Deansgrange. Richard died 16 Feb 1894 at 12 Lower Mount Street, his wife Emily the
informant. He was buried at Deansgrange with his mother in law. Emily died at Eastbourne
in 1908 aged 89. No issue found.
9 Eleanor Manderville Hackett born circa 1810 married Edward Gillman on 17 Sep 1831
at Kinsale Church. Edward was the eldest son of Henry Gillman of Rockhouse, Co Cork.
Eleanor died 4 Dec 1874.
