Walter Giles born circa 1796 took Holy orders. He married Mary Catherine Vaughan on
07.01.1834 at Clonmel. He was vicar of Cahir and died 15.12.1871 at 24 Elgin Road, Dublin.
He left 3k in personal estate and probate was to his son George. Mary died 14.01.1891 at
Alexander Terrace, Bray, late of Waterloo Road. Probate to her son Walter.
1 Captain George Gyles eldest born circa 1837. He was of Lower Strode House,
Beaminster, Dorsetshire and was with the Somerset Militia. He married Alithea
Emma Grey on 11.09.1862 at Walcot Church, Bath. Alithea was the youngest daughter
of late Hon and Right Rev Edward Grey, Bishop of Hereford. George and his brother
acted as administrators to their aunt Richarda Gyles of Kilmurry House in 1888.
The family moved to Dublin in 1889. George of Kilmurray House, Waterford died on
09.07.1913 aged 76 years at 56 Waterloo Road and Alithea died 06.02.1926 aged 90
years at 66 Booterstown Avenue and they are buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Lena Louise Richards Gyles born circa 1864 in Bath married Richard Manliffe
Barrington a barrister-at-law of Fassaroe, Bray son of Edward Barrington on
26.04.1898 at St Peter’s Parish Church, Dublin.
2 Maud Mary Gyles 2nd daughter born circa 1865 Bath, England. Maud died
unmarried on 02.03.1945 aged 79 years at 61 Lansdowne Road and is buried at
Mount Jerome.
3 Margaret Alithea Gyles born circa 1867 in Bath was an artist and poet. She is best
known for designing book covers including some for WB Yeats. She moved with
her family to Dublin in 1889 and studied art. She moved to London in 1892 and
studied at the Slade School in 1893. Her later years were spent in poverty and she
died in a nursing home at Crystal Palace in 1949.
2 Walter Thomas McGuire Gyles born circa 1846 in Cahir. He was a barrister-at-law and
married Augusta Power on 19 Dec 1883 at St James’ Church, Piccadilly. Augusta was the
daughter of Nicholas Alfred Power of Bel Vue House, Waterford. They lived at Lynwood in
1884 and were living at Killiney Lodge, Ballybrack in 1888. Walter was appointed
Commissioner of Income Tax in 1892. He retired as Special Commissioner in 1911 and
they moved to Bournemouth. Walter died on 07.08.1924 in Bournemouth and Augusta
died in 1928 in Liverpool.
1 Walter Henry Keane Gyles only son born 20.09.1884 at Lynwood, Dundrum.
Walter served with the Royal Engineers and married Wilhelmina Newey More 5th
daughter of late Rev John More of Cheltenham on on 14.06.1921 at All Saints Church,
West Southbourne, Bournemouth. Wilhelmina died on 17.10.1952 in Bournemouth.
Probate to her husband a retired civil engineer. Walter died on 14.07.1865 at
Boscombe, Bournemouth.
