Edward Herbert born circa 1793 son of Rev Edward Herbert and Frances Diana Standish.
His father was later Archdeacon of Aghadoe and Chancellor of Christ Church. Edward
graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders. He married Alice Wybrants on 4 Nov 1815.
Alice was the second daughter of Rev Gustavus Wybrants. Edward was the curate at Tralee
and appointed to Kilpeacon in 1822. The Rev Edward T Herbert for 37 years the faithful and
devoted minister of Kilpeacon died 25 Dec 1860 at Kilpeacon Rectory. He left 9k in personal
estate and probate was to his only son Gustavus. Alice died 6 Apr 1863 at her residence,
Alta Villa, near Cork.
1 Emily Herbert eldest daughter born 6 May 1820 baptised at Tralee. She married Eyre
Powell of the Royal County Limerick Militia and of Southerland Cottage, near Limerick
on 17 Oct 1840 at Kilpeacon Church, her father officiated. Emily died 19 Aug 1858 at
Kilpeacon Rectory.
2 Louisa Sophia Herbert born 26 Oct 1821 baptised at Tralee. She married Frederick
Maunsell on 18 Aug 1842 at Kilpeacon Church. Frederick was the son of the late
George Maunsell of Milfort and formerly Collector of HM Customs at Limerick. Louisa
died 31 Oct 1796 at Finnitterston House.
3 Henry Edward Herbert absconded to America circa 1858 (along with one of his father’s
servants) according to his father's will.
4 Henrietta Letitia Herbert born 11 Aug 1828 at Kilpeacon Rectory died December 1857
at Kilpeacon Rectory.
5 Edward Herbert born circa 1830 died from fever on 8 Sep 1847 at Kilpeacon Rectory.
6 Olivia Catherine Herbert born circa 1830 married Revd Andrew Pearde Nash on
18 Feb 1864 at Douglas Church. Andrew was living at Rathkeale in Limerick and was the
son of Andrew Pearde Nash. Olivia died a widow at Finnetterstown, Co Limerick on
8 Dec 1886. Letters of administration were taken out by her sister Louisa.
7 Frances Elizabeth Herbert born March 1832 died from typhus fever in September 1848.
8 Nichola Sophia Herbert born May 1833 at Kilpeacon Rectory. She married George
Fosbery on 4 Jul 1855 at St Mark’s Parish Church, Dublin. George a lieutenant in the
Royal Militia was resident at Buttavant and was the only son of George Fosbery. George
died in 1858 Nichola and her two daughters were killed on 21 Jan 1876 at Abbotts Ripton
near Huntington in a railway accident. Nichola formerly of Haddington Road, afterwards
of Brussels and late of Bray, Co Wicklow left 4k in personal estate and letters of
administration were taken out by her brother Gustavus.

9 Gustavus Wybrants Herbert born 5 Mar 1837 at Kilucan. After the death of his mother,
he took is two younger sisters for a short holiday to Lake Hotel in Killarney and he sold
off the furniture from Alta Villa. He was living at 54 Rathmines Road, Dublin when he
married his cousin Annie Catherine Herbert on 18 Apr 1865 at St Peter’s, Dublin. Annie
was living at 33 South Mall, Cork and was the daughter of the late Rev Otway John
Herbert, late chaplain to HM Forces in Cork and Anne Stoker. He was Hon Sec of the 1st
Masonic Lodge of Ireland in 1868 and was appointed a peace commissioner of Cork in 1869.
They had a house in Bray by 1876. Annie died 28 Sep 1882 at Park Villas, Stillorgan. After
her death Gustavus took on the role of assistant secretary of Masonic schools based at
their offices at 10 Molesworth Street. Gustavus a JP, died a widower from typhoid on
22 Nov 1886 at 2 Park Villas, Stillorgan formerly of Borcette, Bray. He is buried at Mount
Jerome.
1 Edward Sydney Herbert born 6 Jun 1866 at Tivoli Terrace, Cork. He joined The Black
Watch at the age of 21 and had attained the rank of captain by 1894. He married
Alice Gwendolen Gorst on 12 Oct 1905. Alice was the daughter of Rt Hon Sir John
Eldon Gorst and Mary Elizabeth Moore. He was appointed Companion, Order of St
Michael and St George in 1917 and was appointed CBE in 1919. He retired in 1920
with the rank of Brigadier General, late of The Black Watch. Alice died in 1932 and
Edward died 2 Apr 1936 as his home 12 Colcherne Court, London.
2 Gustavus Otway Herbert born 26 Jul 1867 at Tivoli Terrace, Cork. He was an engineer
and married Alice Moorhead McLanahan at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 2 Jan 1901. He
was a widower living with his nine year old son at 12 Cavendish Grove the Avenue,
Southampton in 1911. He was a surveyor of Lloyds Register Shipping (retired) in 1939
living at Gosport and died in 1946 at Gosport.
1 Edwin Otway Herbert born 1901 at Englewood, New Jersey fought in WWII. He
was awarded the DSO in 1940 and KBE in 1955.
3 Annie Eveline Herbert 20 Aug 1869 at Norwood, Douglas. She was living at the
Rectory, Bray when she married Charles William Scott on 4 Jul 1903 at Bray parish
Church. Charles was an engineer and the son of the Rev James George Scott, Rector
of Bray.
4 Henry Arthur Charles Herbert born 26 Apr 1871 at Norwood, Douglas. He took Holy
orders and was curate at Brigg, Lincolnshire. He was appointed chaplain to the
Indian Ecclesiastical Establishment of Lahore in 1900. He married Penelope Mary
Wyatt on 15 Aug 1907 at St Mary's Church, Broughton. Penelope was the daughter of
the Rev William Wyatt, rector of Broughton and Henrietta Mary Wright. In 1908 Henry
was appointed Rector of Broughton.

5 Alice Mabel Herbert born 24 Dec 1872 at Norwood, Douglas, Cork. She married Frank
William Browne at Wicklow Parish Church on 21 Dec 1896. Frank was a widowed
solicitor living at St James’ Terrace, Clonskeagh and the son of Rev Dominick Browne.
6 Otway Charles Herbert born 1 Jul 1877 at 1 Zion Park, Dublin. He was a captain in the
Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders when he married Hilda Marion Jones on 23 Apr 1913
at Leamington Spa. He attained the rank of brigadier general and died 12 Dec 1955.
10 Alice Herbert born circa 1839 married Nathaniel Joseph Hobart, MD on 10 Mar 1864 at
Douglas Church. Nathaniel was the son of Nathaniel Hobart, a colonel in the Indian army.
Alice died at 33 South Mall, Cork on 24 May 1884.
11 Henry Arthur Champagne Herbert youngest son born 12 Apr 1842 at Kilpeacon Rectory
died on 25 Jan 1861.
