Edward Groome married Sarah Smyth on the 19 Dec 1797 at St Thomas’. Dublin. They lived at
Killinane House and he had a brewery and malthouse at Old Leighlinbridge on the River
Barrow, on the opposite side of the river he had a store, a house and workmen’s cottages
which he had up for sale/let in 1813. Edward died on 21 Nov 1817 at Killinane House and the
house was put up for sale after his death by his son Edward. Sarah died at Clonganny House,
Carlow, the residence of her son on 9 May 1846.
1 Edward Groom born circa 1799 in Carlow graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders.
He married Frances Emily (Fanny) Uniacke on 3 Mar 1829 at Tullow Church. Fanny was
the daughter of the late Robert Uniacke of Woodhouse, Co Waterford. He was appointed
rector of Beaulieu & Drumcar, Co Louth in 1831. Fanny died at Charleville, Newtown Park
on 26 Feb 1845 and is buried at Stillorgan graveyard. The gallery in Beaulieu church is
dedicated in her memory.
1 Annette Georgina Mary (Nannie) Groome born circa 1829. She was engaged to
Charles Kavanagh, son of Thomas Kavanagh and Lady Harriet de Poer but on the
eve* of their wedding his dressing gown caught fire and he died on 21 Feb 1853.
As eldest daughter she married Nathaniel Robert Powell of Bellosquardo on
22 Mar 1854 at Monkstown Church.
2 Edward Charles Robert Groome born 23 Jan 1833 died 25 Apr 1833 and is buried at
St Brigid's Church, Beaulieu.
3 Selina Mildred Groome born circa 1835. She married Standish O’Grady on
24 Jan 1856 in Monkstown. Standish was living at Newtown Park and was the
eldest son of Darby O’Grady of Aghamarta Castle, Cork. Selina died 10 Sep 1861
and a window was installed in her memory at Holy Trinity Church, Templebreedy,
near Crosshaven, Co Cork.
1 Selena Helena O'Grady died 7 Aug 1918 at Aghamarta Castle.
4 Barbara Constantina Groome born 6 Jan 1838 died 11 Jul 1838 and is buried at
St Brigid's Church, Beaulieu.
5 Helen Anne Groom born April 1839 died 19 Feb 1843 at Beaulieu Lodge.
6 Sarah Emily Groome born 15 Jun 1840 died 15 May 1853 and is buried at St Brigid's
Church, Beaulieu.
Edward secondly married Harriet Maxwell Carpendale on 15 Mar 1853 at Tamlaght
Church, Armagh. Harriet was the daughter of Rev Maxwell Carpendale, rector of
Tamlaght. Edward died 17 Jan 1874 at Drogheda and Harriet died a widow on
6 Jan 1901 at St Peter’s Place, Drogheda.
7 Harriette Fredericka Frances (Etta) Groome born 29 Jun 1854 at Beltichburne
House, Co Louth. She married George Massey Bowen at St George’s Church,
Hanover Square, London on 2 Apr 1885. George was the son of the Late George
Hatton Bowen of St George’s, Bristol. Harriette died 18 Dec 1829 at The Priory,
Cosham, Hants.
1 Eric Groome Chervase Bowen married Linda Jessie Hudson on 26 Jan 1921 at
Christ Church, Portsdown Hill, Hants.
8 Edwina Charlotte Selina Groome born circa 1855 died unmarried at Clifton, Bristol
on 24 Jun 1932.
9 Marion Groom born 1 May 1857 died 1 May 1857 and is buried at St Brigid's Church,
Beaulieu.
10 Annie Catherine Maxwell Groome born circa 1858 married William Wesley Kilroy of
Moatview, Oldcastle on 20 Sep 1888 at St Peter's Church, Drogheda. Wesley was a
land surveyor and they had at least five children and lived in Oldcastle, Co Meath.
Annie died in 1924 and Wesley died in 1931.
11 Son and heir Edward John Beresford Groome born 11 Aug 1861 emigrated to
Manitoba, Canada. He married Susan (Sue) Ewing on 17 Feb 1892 at St Peter's Church,
Drogheda. Sue was the eldest living daughter of the late Samuel Ewing of New
Orleans and Edendale, Co Dublin. They had at least seven children. Edward died in
Brandon, Manitoba in 1936.
1 Richard Montague Beresford Groome second son married Helen Gertrude
Clement in 1927.
2 Montague Maxwell Carpendale Groome youngest son married Alice Orcutt circa
1944.
12 Richard Robinson Whitty Groome born 1 Aug 1863 at Beltichburne House, Co Louth.
He attended the Masonic Orphan Boy’s School at Freemason’s Hall in Molesworth
Street. He was living in Clifton in 1885 and moved to Weston Super Mare for his
health in 1887. He was a director of Aerated & Mineral Waters Association Ltd (Later
CAMWAL Ltd) and married Emma Louisa Palmer in 1928 who was the manageress
of the Grand Atlantic Hotel where he lived. As second son he died 2 Jul 1928 at
Weston Super Mare.
13 William Frederick Montague Groome youngest son born 6 Jan 1866 at Beltichburne
House, Co Louth. He was of Virden Manitoba and married Kathleen Juliana
Carpendale on 23 Feb 1892 at Dungannon Parish Church. Kathleen was the
youngest daughter of William Carpendale of Falkland, Co Tyrone. He describes
himself as single and an unemployed printer’s labourer in 1921 and died in 1940 in
Bristol.

Cavan Militia he died on 12 Jan 1859 in Dublin and was buried at St Mark's Churchyard
with his father.
5 Thomas Sheridan Groome born in Carlow baptised 30 May 1806 at Old Leighlin graduated
Trinity College and emigrated to Canada circa 1832. He married Margaret Warren and
they lived at Roebuck Forest, Canada where they had at least four children.
1 Sarah Josephine Groome born circa 1839 eldest daughter died at Beaulieu House,
Streatham Hill, London on 3 Aug 1885.
