Richard David of Rosehill Cork married Susanna Atkin. Susanna and five of their children died
from measles in December 1822.
1 Henry Garde second son born circa 1813 died aged 14 on 23 Jul 1827 at Rosehill,
Cork.
2 John Davis Atkin Davis Garde born circa 1814 educated in Cork and admitted Kings
Inns in 1836. He was a solicitor of Molesworth street and married Catherine
McVeagh Lumsden on 11 Oct 1842 at Doneraile, Cork. Catherine was the daughter
of Henry Lumsden, DL of Tilwhilly, Kincardineshire. He was in partnership with
Richard Atkinson of Gortmore a solicitor. The firm of Garde and Atkinson, solicitors
practiced from 7 Inn’s Quays from 1845 and later from Merchant’s Quay. They were
also shareholders in the Galway & Kilkenny Railway Company. They lived at Mount
Dillon from 1859 to 1868. John was Crown Solicitor of counties Longford and Cavan
and died 20 Aug 1889 at Salerno, Ballybrack. He left 22K in personal estate.
Catherine died 11 Dec 1902 late of 86 Marina Street, St Leonards, Sussex. Her
executor her son Richard.
1 Susan Elizabeth Garde eldest daughter 17 Aug 1843 at Molesworth Street
married widower Edward Percival Westby on 16 Jun 1864 at Taney Church.
Edward was a JP of Roebuck Castle and Kilballyowen, Co Clare.
2 Katherine Georgina Garde second daughter born 9 Jan 1845 at Molesworth St.
She was resident at FitzwilliamsPlace and married Matthew John Smyly on
1 Jul 1873 at the Molyneux Church, Dublin. Matthew was the second son of the
late Josiah Smyly, MD of 35 Upper Fitzwilliam Place. Matthew was a land agent
and secretary of the glebes department of the Representative Church Body of
Ireland. They were living in Hollywood, Carrickmines in 1889 and at Rathfarnham
with their three children in 1901. Matthew died 30 Aug 1919 at Christchurch,
Hampshire, probate to his wife. Katherine died at Burley on 6 Mar 1926.
3 Henrietta Lumsden Davis-Garde third daughter born 2 May 1846 at Molesworth
Street died unmarried on 5 Dec 1908 in Dorset.
4 Richard Davis Garde only son born 19 Aug 1847 at Meadowbrook, Dundrum
married Ida Margaret Helen Patton on 20 Feb 1879 at St Mary’s Abbots Church,
Kensington, Ida was the daughter of Colonel Paton, DL, JP of Granholm,
Aberdeenshire. Richard was a famer living at Bianna, Eccleshall, Stone,
Staffordshire in 1881. Richard died 8 Mar 1921.

2 Mary Oliva Davis born circa 1883 in Staffordshire.
5 Mary Olivia Davis-Garde youngest daughter born circa 1850 living at Poole,
Dorset in 1911. She died unmarried at Fordingbridge, Hampshire on
29 Nov 1915
3 Olivia Garde died from measles in December 1822 aged 7.
4 Eliza Garde died from measles in December 1822 aged 5.
6 Helena Garde died from measles in December 1822 aged 4.
6 Walter Garde died from measles in December 1822 aged 3.
7 Susanna Garde died from measles in December 1822 aged 2.
Richard secondly married Diana Grumbleton on 3 Feb 1829 at Douglas church. Diana was
the daughter of Robert Warren Grumbleton of Windsor. Richard died 17 Jul 1855 at Mespil
Parade, Dublin late of Rosehill, Cork.
