Robert Fyan a merchant of 31 Thomas Street by 1795 was selling deer and buffalo skins, indigo
and cottons. He married Maria circa 1793. Maria died at Thomas Street in December 1801.
Robert moved his business to 20 Ushers Quay in 1802. He is mentioned living at Windy Arbour
in the memoirs of Robert Emmet as being helpful in 1803.
1 Margaret Fyan born circa 1794 baptised at St Andrews died a spinster on 4 Sep 1869 at
Windy Arbour and is buried at Glasnevin.
2 Ellen Fyan fourth daughter born 1796 married James A Hollande of Seymour Hill, Co
Tipperary on 28 Apr 1840 at Annbrook Lodge, Dundrum. She died the widow of an
accountant at Windy Arbour on 28 Nov 1878.
3 Susan Maria Fyan born circa 1797 died a spinster on 3 Jun 1857 at Summerfield Cottage,
Dalkey Avenue and is buried at Glasnevin.
4 John Daniel Fyan born circa 1799 was an attorney of Eustace Street from 1829 to 1835.
Daniel Fyan of Windy Arbour executor of his father’s will in 1834. He lived at Rockfield,
Dundrum in 1840 and was secretary to Dundrum National Schools. John was living at
Dunville Avenue, Cullenswood by 1843 and was in financial difficulties. He died in 1844
at Arran Quay (possibly 8 Jun 1844). His executor was Miss Margaret Fyan and he is
buried at Glasnevin.
Robert secondly married Anne Mary/Mary Anne Kelly on 4 Sep 1806 (ML). Robert offices were at
the Commercial Buildings and he was dealing in cotton, calico, pot ash, deer skins, Indigo, sponge
and vinegars. He was bankrupt in 1814 and Montpelier House on which he had expended a large
sum of money was put up for auction. Still bankrupt in 1815, further lands were put up for
auction including the premises at 2 Ushers Quay, 300 acres in Kildare, land in Queen’s County,
an oil mill and land in Clondalkin, and various properties in Dublin City. Robert died 8 Mar 1833
at Bedford, Pennsylvania at the age of 78, and was buried in Bedford, Bedford leaving an
inventory of £350, his son Daniel of Windy Arbour his executor. Mary Anne was living with her
son Lewis in 1860. She died 19 Mar 1863 aged 80 at Bedford.
5 Robert Fyan was born on 8 Aug 1807 at Windy Arbour and baptised at Booterstown. He
married Alice Bryne on 29 Nov 1832, in Bedford, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of
at least three sons and one daughter. The family were living in Bedford, Pennsylvania in
1850. Robert died on 29 Sep 1870 in Bedford. Alice died 30 Aug 1882.

2 Robert Washington Fyan born 1835 was a judge in Laclede County, Missouri and
presided over the first legal hanging in Laclede County. He died in 1896.
3 William Fyan 1838–1933.
4 Mary A Fyan 1841–1919.
6 Lewis Napolean Fyan born circa 1816 at Windy Arbour baptised at Booterstown on
11 Jul 1816. He married Susan Catherine Burkhart on 29 Jun 1841, in Bedford and they
had at least one son. He was the owner of 75 acres in Kildare in 1876. He died
11 Feb 1876 in Bedford.
1 Albert Fyan born circa 1842 proprietor of the Fyan whiskey brand In Bedford.
7 Anna Maria Fyan youngest daughter born circa 1818 at Windy Arbour baptised 26 Sep 1818
at Booterstown. She married Dr Matthew Joseph Frings, LLD on 20 Aug 1842 at St Anne’s
Church. Dr Frings was a modern language teacher at Queens College, Belfast. As last
surviving child Anna died at her son’s residence, The Bungalow, Asbury Park, New Jersey
on 17 Mar 1906.
