Thomas Cuthbert Franks born circa 1839 son of Thomas Franks and Mary Anne Kearney was
admitted Kings Inns. He was a solicitor of 21 Lower Fitzwilliam Street and agent to the
Marquess of Lansdowne when he married Isabella Mary Digges La Touche on 24 Oct 1876 at
St Ann’s Church, Dublin. Isabella was the daughter of William Digges La Touche of 34
Stephen’s Green. He was head of Messrs Franks and Oulton and was President of the
Incorporated Law Society in 1891-92. He was a follower of the Kildare Foxhounds and a
member of the Royal St George’s Yacht Club. Isabella died at St Brigid’s, Clonskeagh on
24 Feb 1905.
1 Alice Louisa Franks born 16 Sep 1877 at Fitzwilliam Street. She married Henry John
Staff on 12 Jul 1922 at St Bartholomew’s, Clyde Road. Henry was a widower of Mount
Shannon, Inchicore and the son of William Henry Staff. Henry originally from Norfolk
was general secretary of The City of Dublin and Pembroke Constitutional Association.
He was Hon Sec of the Dublin Rotary Club and the Kenilworth Bowling Club. Alice was
secretary to the Dublin Council of Social Welfare. Henry died on 19 Dec 1949 at
Pembroke Road. Alice died at Padua House, Waterloo Road 1952, late of Pembroke Road.
2 Mary Emily Franks born 1 Jun 1879 at Northumberland Road died same place on
27 Jul 1879.
3 Thomas William Franks born 2 Dec 1880 at Northumberland educated at Haileybury
College, Hertfordshire. He graduated Trinity and was member of the Dublin University
Boat Club. He married Erma Ida Ryan on 17 Jul 1912 at the Registrar’s Office in Dublin.
Erma was living at Casino, Milltown and was the daughter of Thomas F Ryan, a jeweller.
He was solicitor to the Canadian Bank of Commerce and had a practice in Canada for
seven years returning to Dublin in 1922. They lived at Clyde Road before moving to
Weston House in 1927. He died on 18 Nov 1941 at Weston House. His funeral was at
St Nahi’s, Dundrum and the Archbishop of Dublin (the Most Rev Dr Barton) conducted
the Service.

4 Clement John La Touche Franks born 8 Feb 1883 at 35 Northumberland Road baptised
at St Ann’s. He was a student at Trinity and living with his parents in Clonskeagh in 1901.
He was a surveyor and died a bachelor at Delgany on 26 Nov 1931, his brother Thomas
the informant.
5 Grace Franks born 25 Jun 1885 at St Brigid’s died same place on 6 May 1866.
6 Beatrice Norah Franks born 8 Jul 1887 at St Brigid’s Clonskeagh living with her parents in
Clonskeagh in 1901. She married Major Arthur Francis Barrington Fishe on 26 Aug 1919
at Bartholomew’s Church. Arthur was the son of Colonel Arthur Fishe. Arthur was retired
by 1939 and they were living at Torrbar House, Christian Malford, Wiltshire. Arthur died in
1948 at Bath, Somerset aged 69. Beatrice died on 20 Jan 1955 at Bath and left 30k in
personal estate.
7 Sidney Foster Franks born 9 Jun 1890 at St Brigid’s, Clonskeagh died same place
8 Dec 1899.
Thomas a widower of St Brigid’s, Clonskea secondly married Elizabeth Stephens on 18 Aug 1908
at St Paul’s Church, Glenageary. Elizabeth was living at 29 Morehampton Road and was the
daughter of Henry Stephen’s, a solicitor. Her sister Susan was married to William Oulton.
Elizabeth died at 23 Clyde Road on 20 Feb 1922 aged 69 and Thomas died same place on
7 Mar 1923. He left his interest in the firm of Franks and Oulton to his partner John Oulton.
