Ford North born circa 1766 grandson of Richard North, ironmaster of Liverpool. He married
Sarah Ashworth at Walesby, Nottinghamshire on 5 May 1800. Sarah was the daughter of
James Ashworth, drysalter of Manchester. They lived at Rydal Mount (later the home of
William Wordsworth). Sarah died in December 1829. Richard was a land owner and was
living Oak Hill, Grasmere, Kendal, Westmorland in 1841 and died at Ambleside on 6 Oct 1842
and left 8k in personal estate.
1 John North eldest son born 13 Feb 1801 baptised 17 Mar 1801 St Peter, Liverpool. He
attended Manchester Grammar School. He was a solicitor and married Ellen Haworth
on 4 Oct 1828 at Manchester. Ellen was the daughter of the late Jonathan Haworth. He
was solicitor to the Liverpool Docks and a partner in Messrs North & Orred.
1 Ford North baptised 27 Apr 1830 in Liverpool. He was a barrister and married
Elizabeth William Mann on 14 Apr 1857 at New Brighton Church, Cheshire.
Elizabeth was the daughter of William Mann of Zig Zag Hall, Wallasey. He was
appointed a judge of the High Court of Justice in 1881 and was knighted the same
year. Elizabeth died on 11 Dec 1907 in Moray Scotland. Sir Ford North died
same place on 12 Oct 1913.
2 James North born circa 1802 in Liverpool, baptised 21 Jun 1802 St Peter, Liverpool. He
attended Manchester Grammar School. He took Holy orders and was the incumbent of
St Catherine’s, Liverpool from 1833 to 1873. He died a bachelor in 1889.
3 Richard Ford North baptised 7 Apr 1804 in Liverpool. He attended Manchester Grammar
School. He was a Liverpool cotton dealer with a factory at Vauxhall Road, Manchester.
He married Maria De Los Delores Marti from Cadiz in 1839. The family were living in
Everton, West Derby in 1851 and in Lambeth in 1871. Richard died at West Norwood on
25 Jul 1888. Maria died same place on 16 Jan 1890.
1 Francis North baptised 5 Jun 1840 at Collegiate, Manchester. He was managing
director of paper manufacturing company living at Gypsy Road Lambeth in 1911.
2 Nancy North born circa 1840.
3 Edward Ford North second son born circa 1843 in Manchester. He was attaché to
Perou Legation in 1871. He married Edith Dakin on 25 Jun 1879 at Streatham. Edith
was the third daughter of Sir Thomas Dakin, a merchant of Tooting. Edward died at
Guildford, Surrey in 1927.
4 Mary Dolores North born circa 1848. As elder daughter she died unmarried at West
Norwood in April 1930.
5 Sarah Belan North born circa 1852. She was living with her brother Francis at Gypsy
Road Lambeth in 1911. She died unmarried in Lambeth in 1933.
4 Sarah North born circa 1807 at Rydal, Westmoreland baptised 19 May 1807 at Grasmere.
She married Francis Carleton from Monkstown on 3 Mar 1836 at Ambleside Liverpool.
Francis was a director of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. He died
22 Oct 1848 at Sydenham Hill, Kent. His personal estate was not administered until 1859
by Hector Straith and Louisa Dobinson.
1 Frederick William Carleton son and heir born 23 Jan 1837 at Clifton Terrace,
Monkstown. He was a major in the 60th Regiment and married Mary Louisa
Campbell on 6 Aug 1867 at Thames Ditton. Mary was the daughter of Sir Guy
Campbell.

3 Louisa Carleton only daughter born circa 1838 in Dublin. She married Francis
Dobinson at Speldhurst, Tunbridge Wells on 8 Jul 1858. Francis was a barrister
and the second son of Joseph Dobinson of Egham Lodge, Chertsey, Surrey.
1 Ethel Mary Logan Dobinson born 15 May 1859 died an infant at Egham
Lodge on 8 Jul 1859.
2 Grace Logan Dobinson born 1861 in Surrey.
3 Francis Carleton Logan Dobinson born April 1864 in Surrey.
Sarah secondly married Hector Straith at Barton upon Irwell on 4 Dec 1854. Hector was
a British army officer and the son of Alexander Straith. Sarah died on 4 Apr 1856 and
Hector secondly married Eliza de Butts on 2 Jan 1858. Eliza was the eldest daughter of
Joseph Dobinson of Egham Lodge.
5 Mary Anne North born circa 1810 at Grasmere, Westmorland. She married widower Rev
John Robert Echlin on 26 Oct 1841. Mary Anne died on 23 Dec 1871 at Notting Hill. John
married again in 1878 and died in 1891.
1 John Godfrey Echlin born circa 1843. He married Anne Medici Wrixon in 1870 in
Belfast.
2 Frederic Echlin born 1844 was a commander in the royal navy coastguard service.
He was living at Radipole, Weymouth with his wife Lilian and two children in 1911.
3 Edith Althea Echlin born circa 1844 married the Rev Dr Henry Joy in 1869. Edith
died in 1927.
4 Thomasine Mary Echlin born circa 1847. She married George Reed in 1877.
5 Alfred Ford Echlin born circa 1849 took Holy orders. He was incumbent of St John
the Baptist, Madoc, Ontario and married Isabella Grace Barrat on 31 Oct 1876 at
St Matthew’s, Oakley Square. He died in Ontario on 5 Jan 1886.
6 Althea North third and youngest daughter born 1813 at Grasmere, Westmorland. She died
unmarried at the residence of her brother in law in law Francis Carleton, Monkstown on
15 Feb 1839 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
