David Fitzgerald a merchant of Fleet Street, Dublin married Catherine Leahy. Catherine was the
daughter of David Leahy, merchant. David died in July 1843 at Fleet Street. Catherine died
30 Dec 1864 at 1 Merrion Square West, the home of her son. David and Catherine are buried
at Glasnevin.
1 David Fitzgerald eldest son born circa 1812 was educated at the Acad Institute, Belfast
and admitted Kings Inns. He has offices at 2 Fleet Street and later 20 St Andrews Street
and was in partnership with his brother Thomas as D & T Fitzgerald (mentioned in
Ulysses). He married Margaret Hughes on 1 Feb 1858 at St Michael’s Church, Kingstown.
Margaret was the sister of Baron Hughes and the widow of Thomas Giblings. His
residence was 1 Merrion Square West (now Oscar Wilde House) and he lived at Marlay
from 1869. He was Clerk of the Crown for Co Tyrone. And appointed the solicitor to Irish
Lights in 1872. He died at Marlay, Rathfarnham on 6 Feb 1876 and was buried at
Glasnevin. He left personal estate of 30k and probate was to his brother Thomas.
2 John David Fitzgerald second son born 1 May 1815 was educated at Seafort and was
admitted Kings Inns. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1838. He was a judge on of the Irish
Queens Bench. He married Rosa Donohoe in April 1846. Rose was the second daughter
of the late John O’Donohoe, a Dublin Distiller. Rosa died in 1850.

2 John Donohoe Fitzgerald 20 Jan 1848 at 1 Merrion Square West was a barrister.
3 Gerald Fitzgerald 1849 was a barrister and later a County Court Judge.
He was MP for Ennis from 1852 to 1860 and attorney general in 1859. He secondly
married Hon Jane Mary Matilda Southwell in 1860. Jane was the daughter of Lieutenant-
Colonel Arthur Francis Southwell and Mary Ann Agnes Dillon. She was sister to the 4th
Viscount Southwell. They had at least 10 children. In 1882, he was created a Lord of Appeal
in Ordinary with the life peerage title of Baron FitzGerald, of Kilmarnock, in the County of
Dublin. John retired to England returned to Ireland in 1889 for a holiday and to visit
relatives. JD died 16 Oct 1889 at 22 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin, the home of his brother
Thomas and was buried in Glasnevin cemetery, Dublin.
3 Thomas Fitzgerald youngest son was a solicitor of 22 Fitzwilliam Place. He married
Margaret Martin in September 1848 at Dalkey Roman Catholic Church. Margaret was the
daughter of James Martin of Cappagh House, Co Dublin. Thomas was appointed Crown
Solicitor for Donegal and Derry in 1862 and also acted as registrar to his brother John.
Thomas a widower living at 22 Fitzwilliam Place in 1901 and 1911. They had nine children
of whom five survived to 1911. Thomas died 15 March 1912 and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 David Martin Fitzgerald born circa 1851. He was a solicitor and worked as registrar
to his uncle John. He died 26 Dec 1881 at 22 Fitzwilliam Place and was interred in
the family vault in the O’Connell Circle at Glasnevin.
2 Edward Fitzgerald born circa 1852 married Margaret L'Estrange Hughes in 1877.
3 Wilfred Fitzgerald born circa 1853 was educated at Escott and Beaumont Colleges.
He entered a firm of stockbrokers in which he later became a partner and then
owner. He was President of the All Ireland Polo Club and a member of the cup
winning team at age 75. He was living at 22 Fitzwilliam place and married Annie
Waldron on 31 Jan 1888 at St Mary’s Haddington Road. Annie was the only daughter
of Laurence Waldron of Ballybrack and sister of General Waldron. Annie died
26 Apr 1915 at 13 Raglan Road.
He was 83 years old and secondly married widow Lady Winifred Weldon OBE at
Brompton Oratory . He died in July 1943 at Raglan Road. Winifred died 19 Feb 1951
at Dogmersfield Hampshire. Memorial service at St Bartholomew’s, Clyde Road.
4 Francis (Frank) Fitzgerald fifth son born circa 1856 in Kingstown a bachelor and
timber merchant living with his father in 1901. He was a director of T & C Martin Ltd,
timber merchants. He died in 1913 at Mentone, France.

6 Mary (Minnie) Fitzgerald born circa 1858 in Kingstown living with her father in 1901.
7 Son Fitzgerald born 19 May 1865 at 22 Fitzwilliam Place.
4 Mary Fitzgerald second daughter married John T Devereux on 8 Apr 1858 by special licence
at 7 Merrion Square. John was MP for Rocklands, Wexford.
5 Kate Fitzgerald third daughter married to Charles Robert Barry on 15 Feb 1855 by special
licence at Merrion Square. Charles was a barrister.
6 Emily Fitzgerald youngest daughter married Denis Caulfield Heron at St Andrew’s Church in
January 1854. Emily died at Fitzwilliam Street in 1863 and was buried at Glasnevin. Denis was
a barrister and Professor of Jurisprudence at Queen’s College Galway and died in 1870.
