Thomas Fitzgerald born circa 1753 son of Thomas & Rose Fitzgerald. He was Thomas the
younger of Kilmide, Tullaghgorey (Geraldine) when he married Elizabeth Barnewall in
February 1776. Elizabeth was the daughter of Bartholomew Barnewall of Grennanstown, Co
Meath and the sister of Robert Barnewall, 8th Baronet. Thomas died 21 Aug 1808 at
Geraldine and Elizabeth died 10 Mar 1845 aged 91, at Geraldine. Both are buried at Kilmeed
graveyard.
1 Thomas Fitzgerald born circa 1777 was a colonel in the 58 Regiment and served in the
Peninsular Wars. His batman who saved his life, Henry Phillips of Hampshire lived with
him. He married Elizabeth Murphy in May 1826. Elizabeth was the youngest daughter
of the late Edward Murphy of Balanacloon, Co Westmeath. Thomas was a magistrate
and was suspended from office in 1833 accused of intimidating a prisoner who was
about to give evidence. He was re-instated in November that year. He died 28 Mar 1835
at Geraldine and is buried at Kilmeed. Elizabeth died 4 Nov 1881 aged 75 at 4 Pembroke
Road, Dublin.
1 Mary Fitzgerald born 11 Mar 1827 at Geraldine. As only daughter she married
James George Murphy at Holles Street on 28 Apr 1847 (marriage registered in St
Andrew’s, Westland Row). James was a JP of The Grange, Co Meath and held about
550 acres and also bred horses. He died on 25 Apr 1858 at 129 Stephen’s Green
West. An attempt was made on Mary’s life in April 1859 when shots were fired
through the window of the house. Mary died 3 Sep 1888 at Trafalgar Square,
Monkstown, her son George her executor.
1 George Fitzgerald Murphy born 12 Sep 1849 at Adelaide Road, Dublin. He
married the Hon Lady Mary Louisa Plunkett on 3 Jun 1884 at Dunshaughlin.
Mary was the daughter of Arthur James Plunkett, Earl of Fingal. George, a
farmer was Sheriff for Co Meath in 1908. He was secretary to the Meath
Foxhounds. They were living at The Grange in 1911 and had no children.
George died on 13 Nov 1920 and left 18k in personal estate. Lady Mary died
on 18 Jan 1927 and left 17k in personal estate.
2 Son Murphy born 13 Oct 1850 at Adelaide Road, Dublin.
3 Thomas Fitzgerald Murphy second son born 4 Mar 1853 at Molesworth St,
Dublin. He was living at Estancia Arinal, Porogos South America when he
married Emily Geraldine Hussey at Ballybrack Church on 5 Aug 1882. Emily
was the daughter of the late Malachi Hussey, DL of Westown, Balbriggan.
4 James Fitzgerald Murphy born at The Grange on 14 Feb 1855. He was a
bachelor living at The Grange in Dunsany with his brother George in 1911.
5 Daughter Murphy born 20 Mar 1856 at The Grange.
2 Thomas Edward Fitzgerald born 3 Aug 1831 at Geraldine, Co Kildare. He was
appointed a magistrate of Kildare in 1854 on the recommendation of the Duke of
Leinster, Lord Lieutenant.
3 Francis Augustus Fitzgerald born 14 May 1833 at Geraldine. He was ensign by
purchase in 1852 and attained the rank of captain by purchase in 1860 with the
12th Regiment. As youngest son and late of the 12th Regiment he married Mary
Charlotte Snell on 10 Apr 1877 at St Mary of the Angels, Bayswater. Mary was the
only daughter of Edward Snell of 36 Clanricarde Gardens, Hyde Park. They moved
to Brookvale after they married and were at Weston House, Churchtown by 1880.
They were in Monkstown by 1884 after putting the lease of Weston up for sale.
Francis died 20 Jan 1903 at Seafield House, Monkstown and left 39k in personal
estate. Mary moved to Whitehall Court after her husband’s death and died on
17 May 1909 at Rome, late of Seafield, Monkstown and Durban SA. She left 106k in
personal estate, 25k was left in trust for her son and 25k in trust for his issue so
long as they remained Roman Catholic. After numerous bequests to charities, the
remainder of her estate was left to the Archbishop of Winchester. Her nephew
George Fitzgerald Murphy was one of her executors. She requested that she be
buried with as little expense as possible with her mother at San Lorenzo Cemetery
in Rome.

Brookvale, Stillorgan. He married Norah Frances Talland on 14 Jun 1904 at
St Edward’s, Westminster. Norah was the only daughter of Captain Francis
Talland of Hounslow. Thomas petitioned for divorced in 1910. Major Thomas
died on 5 Jan 1924 at Deddington, Oxfordshire.

2 Mary Fitzgerald born 1 Jul 1780 died 3 Aug 1806 and is buried at Kilmeed.
3 Rose Fitzgerald born circa 1782 married Laurence Strange of Aylwardstown,
Co Kilkenny on 13 May 1804. As last surviving daughter she died 1 Mar 1858
at Kingstown aged 76.
1 Eliza Strange born circa 1808 married Edward Chapman in Kilkenny on
28 Aug 1831. Eliza died 18 Jan 1881 at Aylwardstown House.
2 Thomas F Strange born circa 1813, a solicitor of Waterford died in
February 1897 at Tramore.
3 Richard Strange youngest son born circa 1819 died 4 Sep 1877 at
Graney, Castledermot.
4 Francis Fitzgerald born circa 1784 died 22 April 1810 at Dawlish Lodge in
Devonshire aged 26 years and is buried at Kilmeed.
5 Eliza Fitzgerald born circa 1785 died unmarried on 14 Jan 1856 aged 71.
6 Anne Fitzgerald born circa 1793 died unmarried in June 1841 at Geraldine and
is buried at Kilmeed.
