John Exshaw born circa 1797 son of the Rt Hon John Exshaw, twice Lord Mayor of Dublin in
1789/90 and 1800, came from a prominent family of booksellers. He graduated Trinity in
1817 and took Holy orders. John junior married Eleanor Lynar Fawcett at St Andrew’s Church,
Dublin on 9 Aug 1819. Eleanor was the fourth daughter of the late Rev W L Fawsett. He was
appointed perpetual curate of Eglish in 1822 and to the living (Rectory and Vicarage) of
Kinnitty in 1850. Ellen died 29 Sep 1868 aged 68 at Bear Forest, Co Cork, the residence of her
son in law Augustus Shiel. John retired from old age in 1874. He died at Ferbane, King’s
County on 16 May 1882.

Georgina Charlotte Anderson of the 7 Apr 1853 at Parsonstown. Georgina was the
only daughter of John Anderson of Parsonstown. John was land agent to the Clarke
Estate (David Clarke of Bushy Park, Borrisokane and Park Lodge, Macclesfield). Georgina
died 4 Feb 1904 at Ballyhaden aged 75 John died a widower on 26 Nov 1907 at
Ballyhaden, Borrisokane.

4 Eleanor Eveline (Nellie) Exshaw second daughter married Charles J Lilly, DI, RIC at
St Thomas’ Church Dublin on 14 Dec 1877. Charles was the second son of the Rev
P Lilly, Colleton Vicarage, Paington, South Devon.

2 Ellen Exshaw eldest daughter born August 1821 at Eglish Glebe. She married William
Goold of Rockfort, King’s County on 5 Sep 1845 at Eglish Church. William was the son of
the Rev Pierce Goold, Rector of Finnoe, Co Tipperary.
3 Eliza Grace Exshaw second daughter married Thomas Ellison Goold of Whitson on
1 Jun 1843 at Eglish Church Thomas was the son of the Rev Pierce Goold, Rector of Finnoe,
Co Tipperary.
4 Hannah Evelina Exshaw third daughter born circa 1830 married John Francis Augustus Sheil
of Castle Dawson, Co Derry on 24 Jun 1852 at Kinnitty Church. Augustus was the son of John
Shiel and died 26 Oct 1873 at Dresden aged 51.
5 Angel Exshaw fifth daughter born circa 1828 died at Kinnitty on 18 May 1865.
6 Charlotte Exshaw born circa 1829 died 2 Jan 1906 at Sallymount Cottage, Dalkey and is
buried at Deansgrange.
7 William Exshaw born circa 1830 in Co Tipperary. He was a farmer and married Jane Caroline
Hackett on 26 Jun 1883 at Horseleap Church, Mullingar. Jennie was the youngest daughter
of the late Robert Hackett of Bracca Castle and Rossfarnham. Jane died 7 Oct 1897 at
Ballydaly, Parsonstown. William died a widower on 21 Jan 1907 at Springfield, Moate and
is buried at Deansgrange.

9 Thomas Bunbury Exshaw born circa 1836 died 24 Apr 1843 at Eglish Glebe.
10 Isabella Exshaw youngest daughter born circa 1839. She married Thomas Mingaze
Golding of Walsham le Willows, Suffolk on 10 Jun 1858 at Kinnitty Church and they had at
least seven children.
11 Robert Wellington Exshaw born circa 1842. He was an accountant with the Provincial Bank
of Ireland living at 19 Adelaide Road when he married Judith Ellen McCullough on 7 Sep 1876
at St Matthias’ Church in Hatch Street. Judith was living at 60 Wellington Road and was the
daughter of the late William McCullough, late manager of the Provincial Bank of Ireland,
Dublin. Robert was a member of the Dublin Stock Exchange in 1901 and had retired by 1911
with all five of their children having survived. Robert died 28 Mar 1916 at 1 Knapton Villas,
Kingstown, his son Robert the informant and is buried at Deansgrange. Judith died
6 Dec 1930 at 1 Knapton Villas and is buried with her husband.
1 William Ernest (Ernest) Exshaw born 29 Aug 1877 at 32 Wellington Road. He was an
undergraduate in TCD in 1901. He was housemaster at King Edward VI School at
Totnes, Devon when he married Grace Olive Chapman on 4 Jan 1906 at St John’s,
Monkstown. Grace was the daughter of Thomas Octavious B Chapman. He went
into partnership with Alfred Le Peton in 1912 as joint principal of Earlsfort House
School. Alfred a housemaster at Strangways School at 74 Stephen’s Green started
Earlsfort House in 1906 when the Crawleys took over. He left Earlsfort to set up
Sandford School in 1922 and William continued as sole headmaster of Earlsfort until
1939. Grace died 1 Sep 1937 at Brendan Road, Donnybrook aged 64 and is buried
at Deansgrange. No issue found.
William of Glen Lyn, Brendan Road, Donnybrook secondly married Frances Amy
(Nancy) Patchell on 2 Aug 1939 at Christ Church, Leeson Park. Frances was the
daughter of Robert John Patchell, KC. William died at Brendan Road on 9 Aug 1947
and is buried at Deansgrange.
2 Robert Claude Exshaw born 31 Dec 1878 at 32 Wellington Road. He was a stock
brokers’ clerk in 1901. He died a bachelor from heart failure on 14 Apr 1939 at
Monkstown Hospital late 1 Knapton Villas and is buried at Deansgrange.
3 Herbert Exshaw born 4 Feb 1880 born 4 Feb 1880 at 32 Wellington Road. He was a
clerk in the Dept of Agriculture in 1901. He was on the Select Vestry of Monkstown in
1911 and was the organist at Stillorgan from 1913 to 1922. He played at the funeral
of Viscount Hugh Gough in 1917. Chopin’s Funeral March at the opening, and the
Dead March in Saul at the conclusion followed by the Nanc Dimittis, six boys from St
Patrick’s Cathedral School led the singing. He was friendly with Charles St George
Orpen and his wife Cherry Darley of Carrickmines. He helped their daughter Grace
in the harmonisation of the airs and dances she collected from the Donegal area
which she had published in London in 1931. Herbert, a clerk died a bachelor from
heart failure on 2 Dec 1931 at Monkstown Hospital after an operation, late of 1
Knapton Villas, Dun Laoghaire. He is buried at Deansgrange.
4 Eileen Maud Exshaw born 18 Dec 1884 at Knapton Villas. She married Robert Cleary
Hill on 26 Aug 1909 at Monkstown. Robert was the son of Robert Henry Hill, a
schoolmaster. Robert died 29 Mar 1948 at Monkstown Hospital late of Knapton Villas.
Eileen died 10 Nov 1967 at 4 Willow Bank, Dun Laoghaire, both are buried at
Deansgrange.
5 Margaret Ruth Exshaw born circa 1888 died unmarried on 6 Apr 1967 at 4 Willow
Bank, Dun Laoghaire late of Knapton Villas and is buried at Deansgrange.
12 Edward Exshaw born circa 1843 died from scarlatina on 1 Mar 1850 at Eglish Glebe.
