Isaac Espinasse of Kill, County Dublin son of William Espinasse descended from an ancient family in
France. Isaac served as an officer in the 13th Light Dragoons during the rebellion of 1745. He
married Mary Magennis on 21.08.1754 at St Bride's Church, Dublin. Mary was the daughter of
Richard Magennis of Finvoy Lodge, Antrim and Drumdoe, Roscommon. Isaac was on the
committee of The Blackrock Association, a group formed in 1782 which offered rewards for
information leading to a conviction or to the return of stolen goods.
1 Richard Espinasse born circa 1756. He was a barrister of Kill Abbey and married Jane
Luffingham daughter of William Luffingham on 10.12.1789. Richard late of Kill Abbey
died on 19.04.1842 aged 87 years at Stephen’s Green and Jane died circa 05.05.1843
at Stephen’s Green.
2 Isaac Espinasse 2nd son born circa 1758. He was a barrister of Mansfield, Dublin. He
was a bencher of the Hon Society of Gray’s Inn and one of his Majesty’s Justices of the
Peace for the County of Kent. Isaac married Anna Maria Hearn eldest daughter of Mark
Anthony Hearn of Dublin circa 1788. Isaac died on 14.02.1834 aged 77 years in Huxtable
House.
1 James Espinasse born circa 08.07.1798 only son Recorder of Rochester, Judge of the
County Courts in West Kent of Boxley Lodge married Susanna Elizabeth Espinasse 2nd
daughter of William Espinasse on 01.12.1826 at St Andrew’s, Holborn. Susanna died on
04.09.1841 aged 36 years. James died 16.03.1867 aged 68 years.
3 Lieut Colonel Henry William Espinasse born circa 1760 married Maria Petre née Howard relict
of the Hon George William Petre on 10.12.1801 at Twickenham. Maria died on 11.06.1837. In
1841 Henry was living with his daughter Maria and her family in Twickenham. Henry late of the
4th or Kings Own Regiment died 27.10.1845 aged 85 years at Heathan Lodge, Twickenham.
Henry left an estate of 25,000l. Probate to his brother Robert who pre-deceased him.
Administered by his daughter Maria Cordelia only surviving child.
1 Maria Cordelia Espinasse eldest daughter born circa 1803 married William Ker
Ashford eldest son of William Ashford on 20.09.1832 at Twickenham. William died
28.12.1863 and Maria died 20.03.1882 both at Elm Villa, Petersham.

3 Julia Maria Henrietta Espinasse born on 15.09.1805 married George Beauchamp
Cole son of Stephen Thomas Cole on 07.10.1833 at Twickenham. Julia died in
December 1837 at Twickenham.
4 William Espinasse born circa 1768 married Susanna Magdaline Mangin in 1799. Susanna
was the daughter of Lieut Col Henry Mangin. William died 10.07.1848 aged 80 years at his
residence Kill Abbey and Susanna died on 08.01.1863 at Belmont Lodge, Murphystown. A
memorial was erected in the French Cemetery, Peter Street by her children.
1 Mary Espinasse born circa 1800 eldest daughter died 06.04.1869 at
Campfield Terrace, Dundrum, the home of her brother James.
2 James Isaac Espinasse of Stephens Green baptised on 20.09.1803 at St
Peter’s Church. James of HM Service married Julia Mathilda Stephens on
01.05.1833 at St James, Sydney. Julia was the daughter of William Stephens
of St Kitts, West Indies. James served in the 1st Royal Scots Regiment and
they lived at No 1 Campfield Terrace from 1858 to 1869. James died
01.03.1874 Rockmount Cottage, Dundrum and is buried at St Nahi's. He
left £450 in personal estate but his will was left unadministered by his wife.
Julia died 19.06.1877 at Victoria Place, Blackrock and is buried at St Nahi's.
1 William Espinasse born 1834 in Sydney. He married Margaret Bailie on
25.01.1866 in Philipstown Church, Co Louth. Margaret was the eldest
daughter of Robert Bailie of Shortstone, Co Louth. William died 05.08.1904
and Margaret died 31.03.1929 aged 84.
2 Reuben Espinasse born 29.08.1839 in Northampton. He married Madeline
Josephine Ellen Gillmer on 11.02.1868 at Trinity Church, Gravesend.
Madeline was the daughter of the late Joseph Thompson Gillmer, MD of
Philadelphia. Reuben was with the Merchant Navy and died in Melbourne
in 1893.
1 Bernard Reuben Isaac Julian Lilian Espinasse baptised 27.04.1869 in
Gravesend.
3 Mary Espinasse born 26.07.1843 in India. Mary applied to administer her
father's estate but it appears that she did not have the mental capacity to do
so, and her brother William applied for administration in 1879. Mary died
29.12.1879 at St Patrick's Hospital, Dublin and is buried at St Nahi's.
3 Richard Espinasse born circa 1801 was a barrister and JP of Kill Abbey. He married
Martha Vickers in 1832. Richard died 01.04.1874 aged 73 years. Martha died
08.09.1889 aged 81 years at Kill Abbey.
1 Susan Joyce Espinasse born circa 1833 died 17.12.1888 aged 55 years.
2 Isabella Mary Espinasse born circa 1835 died 11.02.1857 aged 22 years.
3 Robert Espinasse born 1838, died 12.04.1855 aged 17 years.
4 Richard John Espinasse born circa 1829 died 08.11.1859 aged 20 years.
5 Martha Espinasse born circa 1842 died 19.12.1930 aged 88 years.

Dublin married Emily eldest daughter of Hon George William Petre of Belhouse, Ongar,
