Ephraim Hutchinson born circa 1744. He was a successful importer of timber including
mahogany and Riga oak based at 4 Bachelor's Walk. He married Elizabeth Morres on
28.11.1778 at St Anne's Church, Dublin. Elizabeth was the daughter of Redmond Morres, for
many years Representative in Parliament for the city of Dublin. Ephraim was one of the
founding subscribers to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce in 1773. He was elected a
member of the RDS in 1781 and was a subscriber to the Bank of Ireland. They lived at Lota
from 1787 and Ephraim was church warden at St Mary's in 1792. He was bankrupt in 1799
having lost cargos during the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland during the War of the Second
Coalition. In 1800 Lota (on a 99 year lease from 1762) was put up for auction along with nine
of his other properties in Dublin, Kildare and King's County. Lota was sold in 1801. He was
later surveyor and comptroller of the Custom House. He was president of the Hibernian
Marine Society in 1819. He died at Harcourt Street on 29.08.1822 and is buried at St James'
churchyard. Elizabeth died 25.01.1832 at Harcourt Street.

at St Peter’s Church.
She married secondly Richard Knight of Fitzwilliam Square on 25.05.1826.
3 Anne Hutchinson 2nd daughter born April 1785 at 4 Bachelors Walk. She married
William Henry Crawford on 19.04.1805. Anne died on 19.05.1854 at Mountpleasant
Square West.
4 John Hutchison 1st son born at Bachelors Walk, baptised on 24.06.1789 or 1790 at St
Mary’s Church, Dublin.
5 Redmond Morres Hutchinson born at Bachelors Walk baptised 04.06.1791 at St Mary’s
Church, Dublin. Redmond a barrister married Frances Read on 20.07.1824 at St
Peter's Church, Dublin. Frances was the 3rd daughter of late John Read of College
Green one of the sheriffs of the city. Redmond died 29.01.1838 aged 44 years at his
house in Harcourt Street. Frances died on 11.03.1887 at 3 Connaught Terrace, Upper
Garville Avenue, Rathgar aged 84 years. They are buried at Kilternan.

6 William Hutchinson born circa 1793 joined the Navy. During the naval war of 1812 he
was attached to the HM Frigate Apollo. He along with five men captured a three gun
French boat and 47 men. He was Haven Master at Dunleary in 1818 and saved the HM
Sloop the Pandora from floundering on the rocks. He induced ten men including two
pilots to accompany him. He got onboard the sloop just before her holding cable
snapped and steered the boat to safety into Pigeon House Dock. In 1820 he saved the
brig Robert of Liverpool from certain destruction. He used the lifeboat, boarded the
boat and brought her to safety. He became the first Harbour master of Kingstown in
1823. He continued to save lives and boats and in 1829 saved nine people who were
onboard the brig The Duke. William was subsequently awarded the Royal National
Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) gold medal for valour, the first Irish lifeboatman to be
honoured in this manner. He was instrumental in setting up a sailors rest home at
Kingstown. Commander Hutchinson retired in 1874 and died a widower on 12.04.1881
at Crosthwaite Park, Kingstown, late of Harbour House and is buried at Mount Jerome.
Probate was to Rev Henry Knox Hutchinson of Rathconnell, Killucan, Co Westmeath.
1 Henry Knox Hutchinson took Holy orders and was appointed to Rathconnell,
Killucan, Co Westmeath in 1862 and was living there in 1881.
2 William Hutchinson second son was with the Royal Dublin City Militia and married
Anne Gibton on 07.10.1861 at Monkstown. Major Hutchinson died at Brighton
late of Cahir House on 08.09.1882.
1 Daughter Hutchinson born at Kingstown on 10.08.1865.
3 John Hutchinson born circa 1830 joined the Royal Navy. He was a captain
conducting a hydro survey and died in Adelaide, Australia in 1869.
