Chaworth Lyster born circa 1777. He was a captain in the militia and married Anne
Keightley on 06.04.1821. Anne was the daughter of Thomas Keightley of Newtown, Co
Kildare and the sister of Thomas Keightley, the writer known for his books on mythology and
folklore, particularly Fairy Mythology. He had property at Grenan, near Durrow which he
held from Lord Kirkwall. There was an attempt made on his life in 1831 and the following
year, his land steward was murdered by the Whitefeet (a secret agrarian society). Anne died
08.10.1839 at Violet Hill near Finglas. He was appointed Paymaster Dublin County Regiment
of Militia in 1846. Captain Lyster died 18.07.1860 at Ballybeg Cottage, Co Wicklow.
1 Frederick Lyster born 22.03.1822 at Baggot Street. He was a baritone and member of
his brother William’s theatre company in America and moved to Australia in 1861. He
married Rosalie Durand a fellow member of the company. Rosalie died on 08.12.1866
aged 33 in Sydney. Frederick secondly married Minnie Walton an Australian-American
singer and actress. Minnie died on 01.07.1879 at her home in San Francisco.
2 Emma Lyster born circa 1825 married Andrew Nolan on 17.02.1849 at Nun’s Cross
Parish of Killiskey. Andrew was a surgeon of Wicklow and the son of late Wm Nolan.
Andrew died on 06.02.1871 aged 72 years at Wicklow. Informant Elinor A Nolan.
1 Lyster Andrew Nolan born circa 1849 a Surgeon living at 7 Sydenham Road,
Dundrum in 1880. Lyster LRCSI married Gertrude Flora Cooke-Yarborough
younger daughter of late Geo Cooke-Yarborough of Campermount, Yorkshire on
23.02.1884 at Holy Trinity Church, Hastings.
2 Elinor Anna Nolan born circa 1851. Elinor of Lakelands married Everard
Hamilton a solicitor of Annefield, Dundrum and son of John Hamilton, a solicitor
on 21.04.1881 at Taney Parish Church. They lived at Ballinteer Lodge.
3 Chaworth Louis Nolan born 13.03.1858 of Church Street, Wicklow married Helen
Mary Darley of Violet Hill, Bray daughter of Wellington Darley on 23.07.1904 at
Kilbride Parish Church, Bray. Chaworth was a Fleet Surgeon with the Royal Navy.
They were living in Kilbride in 1911. Chaworth died on 24.04.1938 at Farnham,
Surrey and is buried at Enniskerry.
Emma of 7 Sydenham Road, Dundrum married secondly Alfred Hudson of Meath and
2 Merrion Square North, a widower and eldest son of Rev John Hudson of Birmingham
on 19.10.1878 at Taney Parish Church. Alfred was the eldest son of Rev John Hudson
and died on 19.11.1880 aged 72 years at his residence Lowville, Merrion and is buried
at Mount Jerome. Emma put Lakelands, Kilmacud up for sale in 1881. Emma Hudson
died on 02.07.1894 at Lynton, Dundrum and is buried at Taney.
3 Marc Anthony Lyster born circa 1826 drowned of the coast of Newfoundland circa 1848.
4 William Saurin Lyster third son born 22.03.1828 in Dublin. His great-uncle and godfather
was the Hon William Saurin, a prominent legal figure who served as Attorney-General
for Ireland. He was an operatic impresario and entrepreneur and founded the New York
Opera company in 1856. He pioneered professional opera in Australia, introducing
international troupes and a wide repertoire of works to colonial audiences. He
established the Lyster Opera Company upon his arrival in Melbourne in March 1861.
William died 27.11.1880 at Melbourne survived by his wife; Georgia Hodson, a member
of the Lyster troop.
5 Alfred Chaworth Lyster born 12.02.1831 at Baggot Street married Lizzie Kennett on
30.05.1857 at Boulogne-sur-Mer. Lizzie was the third daughter of Captain Kennett of
Boulogne. They lived in Chiswick and had a number of children including Cecil Rupert
Chaworth Lyster CBE, physician, pioneering electrotherapist and radiologist.
6 Chaworth Edward Lyster born 13.03.1834 at Baggot Street. He was a medical doctor and
lived in Liverpool. He married Margaret Ann Parlane on 27.04.1863 and secondly
married Marion Darsie in 1876. He died in 20.04.1881 at Toxteth Park.
7 Arthur Burdett Lyster born 14.12.1836 emigrated to Australia and worked with his
brother William. He died 09.07.1897 at Burley late of Dandenong in his 61st year.
