Nicholas Ellis of Lisnavara, Monaghan. He was a solicitor and married Sarah Nixon eldest
daughter of Humphrey Nixon of Nixon Lodge, Cavan on 25.01.1805. Nicholas was the land
agent to Sir Thomas Barrett Lennard's estates in Monaghan and to the estates of Lord
Devon and later the Earl of Portsmouth in Wexford. Sarah died 13.01.1843 at Hardwick
Place, Dublin. Nicholas died 26.01.1867 at 83 Stephen's Green, the residence of his son
Hercules. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Anna Ellis born 04.09.1806 baptised at St George’s Church, Dublin.
2 Hercules Ellis 1st son born 21.10.1807 baptised at St George’s Church was educated
at Trinity and called to the Bar. Hercules was a poet and anthologist. He published the
Songs of Ireland in 1849, Romances and Ballads of Ireland in 1850 and the Book of
Rhymes in 1851. Hercules died unmarried on 29.08.1879 aged 69 years at Holly Court,
Blackrock and is buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Frances Ellis 2nd daughter born 18.09.1809 and baptised at St George’s Church
married Edward Kellett a solicitor of Lower Dorset Street 2nd son of Robert Kellett of
Waterstown, Meath on 13.09.1830 at St George’s Church, Dublin.
1 Robert Kellett baptised 02.08.1831 at St George’s Church of 3 Upper Gardiner
Street.
4 Maria Sarah Ellis born 22.07.1811 and baptised at St George’s Church.
5 Elizabeth Rebecca Ellis born 14.07.1813 and baptised at St George’s Church died
unmarried on 05.04.1883 aged 70 years at 4 Ashfield Terrace, Terenure, Dublin.
6 Thomas Ellis baptised 21.10.1818 at St George’s Church.
7 Harriette Ellis born circa 1828 and died 12.02.1899 aged 71 years at 2 Westbury Terrace,
Brighton Road, Rathgar, Dublin. Probate to William Thornley Stoker.
