George Drimmie born circa 1809 at Montrose, Angus, Scotland son of Alexander Drimmie
and Margaret Scott. He married Jane Smart circa 1837 and was a cabinet maker living at
Brechin, Forfarshire in 1851. He worked in the Gas Works in Scotland and was transferred
to Letterkenny, Co Donegal in 1856 as works manager. Jane died 24 Jan 1883 at Bloomfield
Cottage, Montrose, Scotland. George died a widower on 15 Nov 1893 at 23 Strand Road,
Merrion, the informant his granddaughter E H Drimmie.
1 David Drimmie born 27 Mar 1838 at Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire, Scotland. He was
living with his parents in 1851 in Scotland. He was a clerk in a merchant’s office when
he married Elizabeth Rose on 22 Oct 1861 at the 3rd Presbyterian Meeting House,
Templemore, Derry City. They rented Bellevue in 1882 and purchased it in 1884 when
it came up for sale. David Drimmie was secretary of an insurance company by 1871.
Elizabeth died 2 Dec 1872 aged 34 when the children were very young. Elizabeth’s sister
Janet Rose moved in with the family and acted as mother to them. David died a widower
in New York, where he gone for the benefit of his health on 1 Aug 1889. His body was
repatriated and he is buried in Mount Jerome. Janet Rose died on 1 Feb 1897 and is
buried in the Drimmie family grave.
1 George Drimmie born circa 1863 became a member of the Royal Horticultural
society in 1891. He was a partner in the firm of David Drimmie and sons and lived
at Bellevue. He was a secretary to the Phoenix Fire Company and English and
Scottish Law Life Office. He was appointed to the Commission of the Peace for
Dublin in 1895. He married Susan Maggie Gardiner on 28 Aug 1900 at Rutland
Square Presbyterian Church. Susan aged 28 and was the daughter of Graham
Gardiner a district inspector with the RIC. George was appointed agency manager
for England and Wales to the English & Scottish Law Life Assurance Company in 1901.
He died 20 Jun 1918 in Cricklewood, London. Susan died 7 Dec 1948 at Wembley.
No issue found.
2 Elizabeth Hamilton Drimmie born circa 1864 in Derry City. She died a spinster at
Sydney Parade on 21 Mar 1932. Elizabeth died unmarried on 21 Mar 1932 and
is buried at Mount Jerome.
3 David Drimmie born circa 1865 in Derry City. He was an Insurance Secretary and
a partner in the firm of David Drimmie and sons based at 14 Sackville Street.
David Drimmie and Sons gets a mention in Ulysses. He became a member of the
Royal Horticultural society in 1891 and lived at Bellevue. He married Mary Bartley
in 1920 n Anglesey. Mary was a Roman Catholic from Oldcastle Co Meath. They
lived on Morehampton Road. David died at 26 Elgin Road on 7 Apr 1945. They
had no children.
4 Amelia Rose Drimmie born 14 Sep 1871 at Strand Road, Merrion, Co Dublin was
classed as an imbecile in both the 1901 and 1911 census. She died unmarried on
10 Mar 1947 at Bloomfield, Donnybrook.
5 Arthur Hamilton Drimmie born 4 Nov 1868 at Lower Sackville Street. He was a
partner in the firm of David Drimmie and sons and lived at Bellevue. He married
Margaret Watt Dudgeon on 5 Jun 1896 in Philadelphia. Arthur died 30 Apr 1940 at
Sydney Parade Avenue. Margaret died 4 Jul 1950. Both are buried at Mount Jerome.
They had no children.
2 Agnes Smart Drimmie only daughter born 3 Feb 1846 in Fettercairn, Kincardineshire,
Scotland. She was living with her parents at Montrose, Forfarshire in 1881. She was
living at 23 Strand Road in 1893 where she died unmarried on 14 Jan 1908. She is buried
at Mount Jerome with her father.
