Patrick Dillon of Runamede, Co Roscommon married Bedelia Trears at Ballymoe Chapel, Galway
on 23 Oct 1856. He was the eldest son of Richard Dillon of Ballintubber. The Rev Thomas Dillon,
parish priest of Ballintubber and uncle of the bridegroom officiated at the ceremony. Bedelia
was the only daughter of Patrick Trears of Ballymoe, Co Galway. Patrick died aged 36 on
15 Dec 1867 at Heathfield, Castleplunkett, Co Roscommon leaving her with at least six young
children and very little money. Bidelia moved back to Ballymoe to live with her father. Her
father died on 19 Nov 1899 at Ballymoe and left his property to Bedelia for her lifetime, after
that it was to go to his grandson Thomas Gerald Dillon. Delia was living at Ballymoe with her
brother Thomas Trears and her daughter Kate in 1901. She died 13 Jan 1913 and was buried at
Killroan.
1 Mary Ellen Dillon eldest daughter born circa 1858 married Michael Rorke on 27 Jul 1881
at Gardiner Street Church. Michael was the third son of Thady Rorke of Camogue, Tulske.
Michael was a grazier at Lissadorn, Creeve. He and Mary were living there with six of their
seven children in 1901; Albert, Nora, Douglas, Pauline, John & Hilda.
2 Richard Dillon born circa 1860. Richard Wentworth Dillon*, eldest son residing at
Lissadorn House, Elphin, County Roscommon, married Louisa Mary Ruckley** on
23 Nov 1898 at St Joseph’s Church, Rathfarnham, Louisa was the daughter of John Buckley
solicitor of Eustace Street and 5 Victoria Terrace, Dublin. Richard served in South Africa
as Camp Commandants Staff, S.A. Forces during WW1 and died in service 4 Jun 1917 in
Johannesburg.
3 Kate Alice Dillon second daughter born circa 1862 died a spinster on 21 Oct 1910 and she
was buried in the family plot at Killaroan.
4 Thomas Gerald Dillon born circa 1866. He was a skilled horseman riding with the
Roscommon Hunt. He was an amateur jockey winning the race at Garry Castle, Athlone on
‘Haughty Miss’, a horse he bred himself. He was medical officer at Athleague for about 30
years and lived Coolmeen. He sold off his land in Roscommon to the conjected Districts
Board. He resigned his appointment in October 1921 and moved to Dalkey. He was living
at 29 Rathgar Road, the residence of his sister Delia McLoughlin in 1924. He purchased
Drummartin Lodge and lands in 1927 where he continued to breed horses and experiment
with growing tobacco and flax. He was owner of ’Mrya M’ and ‘Santome’ (out of Orme). He
was a collector of fine art and literature and his collection contained many fine paintings,
engravings and rare books. He had an interest in archaeology, local history and genealogy
and in 1924 published a brochure on Carnfree and Cruachain and dedicated it to his friend
Canon Geraghty. He entertained many groups of friends in the evenings at Drummartin
Lodge. He died a bachelor on 23 Feb 1931 at Drummartin Lodge and his funeral mass was
held at Stephens Green Church. He was buried at Deansgrange.
5 Patrick Dillon born circa 1866 died an infant.
6 Margaret Cecelia Dillion born circa 1874* married Thomas A Flannery, Sligo on
12 Sep 1894 at St Joseph’s Berkley Road. They had two children by 1901 - Dorothy Mary
and Gladys Elizabeth. Cecilia died at Stephens Green 24 Feb 1944.
7 Delia Dillion married Patrick J McLoughlin on 7 Aug 1889 at St Michael’s Kingstown.
Patrick a tea taster was the son of James McLoughlin. The couple had at least 5 children by
1901. Delia died 10 Dec 1943 and was buried with her brother Thomas at Deansgrange.
