Patrick Dixon born circa 1801 was a gardener at the Merrion Nursery. Patrick, of Inch Co
Wexford died 27 Apr 1871 at Merrion Nursery, his wife Sarah the informant and he was
buried at Glasnevin. Sarah died at Richmond Street on 23 Dec 1884 at the home of her
son Patrick. The funeral was to Glasnevin Cemetery on Christmas morning. American
newspapers were asked to copy the details.
1 Patrick Albert Dickson (sometimes Dixon) son of Patrick and Sarah Dickson born
10 Feb 1846 at Cronecbibbon, in Co Wexford. Patrick was a fruitier living at
Richmond Street in 1884 and married widow Mary McDowell nee Tailor on
28 Jul 1885 at Rathmines RC Church. Mary had as least four children. (Harry,
Bridget, Annie and Kathleen) from her previous marriage. They were living at 33
Garville Avenue in 1894. Mary died aged 60 on 6 Nov 1902 at Rathmines and was
buried at Glasnevin. Patrick was granted the transfer of the licence at Goatstown in
1903.
Patrick secondly married Alicia Lamb, a florist and shopkeeper on 24 Jun 1908 at the
Pro Cathedral, Marlboro Street. Alicia was the daughter of Henry Lambe, a merchant
and was living at 33 O’Connell Street. Patrick was a farmer, builder and publican.
By 1911 they were living at Sydney Parade, Alicia was 45 and they had no children.
Patrick had the pub from 1903 to 1911 at Goatstown and then transferred the
licence to his nephew Albert Traynor who ran the pub for him. Patrick was one of
the executors of Albert Traynor’s will. Patrick died 17 Feb 1936 at Roseville, Sydney
Parade. His nephew Herbert Walsh of Beechmount Nursery, Merrion the informant.
After his death his large property portfolio mainly in Sandymount and Terenure was
sold, with tenants being given first refusal. Patrick died 17 Feb 1936 at Roseville,
Sydney Parade and was buried at Glasnevin. Alicia died in Bray on 1 Apr 1941 and
was buried at Glasnevin.
2 Catherine Dixon married William Traynor on 26 Jun 1873.
3 Bridget Dixon born circa 1843 married Thomas Walsh on 12 Jun 1864 at Sandymount
R C Church. She was a servant living at Irishtown. Thomas was a labourer residing at
Merrion and was the son of Hugh Walsh a labourer. Bridget was a widow living at
Merrion Nursery in 1911 with her sons Herbert and John. Bridget died 13 Nov at
Beechmount Nurseries.
1 James Walsh born circa 1871 was a gardener living with his brother Herbert at
Merrion in 1901 and at 109 Pembroke Cottages in 1913.
2 Joseph Walsh born circa 1872 was nurseryman living with his brother Herbert at
Merrion in 1911.
3 Herbert Walsh born 17 Oct 1874 at Merrion. He ran Beechmount Nursery at
Merrion. He died unmarried on 15 Apr 1956 at 103 Merrion Road.
