Thomas Davies born circa 1781 of the firm of Messrs Rowley & Davies, wholesale tea dealers of
Mincing Lane, London, North John Street, Liverpool and Cannon Street London. He was living at
Netley and married Harriett Whelan at Monkstown Church on 2 Jun 1846. Thomas was 65 and
Harriett was a minor. Hariette was the youngest daughter of Sir Thomas Whelan of Elmville,
Harold’s Cross Terenure and Mount Pellier Parade, Monkstown and his wife Lady Alicia Egan. Sir
Thomas Whelan was an ex Lord Mayor of Dublin. They lived at Netley until 1851 and moved to
London. Thomas died at 1 Hamilton Place, St John’s Wood on 18 Aug 1856.
Harriett and the children were visiting her parents at Bays Hill Terrace, Cheltenham in 1861 and
living at Carlton Hill, Marylebone, London in 1871. In 1891 she was living at Maberley Road,
Croydon, Surrey. As last surviving child of Sir Thomas Whelan, Harriett died 14 Mar 1901 at 10
Maberley Road, Upper Norwood, probate to her daughter Kate.

1848.
3 Thomas Davies born 2 Mar 1850 at Netley, South Hill Avenue. As eldest surviving son he
died 27 Mar 1888 at Wrexham.
4 Alicia Egan Davies born 8 Nov 1851 at St John’s Wood, London was living with her mother
at Marylebone in 1871. As eldest daughter she died a spinster on 6 Nov 1889 as 33
Carisbrook Road, St Leonards-on-Sea.
5 Harriett Davies born 5 Jul 1853 at St John’s Wood, London living with her mother at
Marylebone in 1871. As eldest surviving daughter Harriett died a spinster on 18 Jul 1896 at
10 Maberly Road, Upper Norwood.
6 Basil Rowley Davies born 13 Nov 1854 at St John’s Wood, London was a merchant’s clerk living
with his mother at Marylebone, London. He emigrated to Australia and lived at Hope Lodge,
Belair. As only surviving son he died a bachelor on 9 Aug 1894 in South Australia. He was
interred at West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide.
7 Kate Anne Davies born 12 Mar 1856 at St John’s Wood, London living with her mother at
Marylebone, London. Kate died a spinster on 21 Apr 1913 at 163 Buckingham Palace Road,
Middlesex.
