at Stillorgan graveyard. His wife Ann died circa 1824 (will dated 8 Oct 1824).
1 Elizabeth Cornwall born circa 1782 married Edward Ingham and secondly married James
M’Auley in 1830. She died 28 July 1855 without issue.
2 John Cornwall born circa 1789 married Dorothea Clutterbuck on 17 Dec 1812 at St Audeon’s.
John died 23 Nov 1862 aged 73 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard. Dorothea died
15 May 1864 aged 76 and was buried at Stillorgan.
1 Dora Cornwall eldest daughter born circa 1815 married John Long in July 1837 at
Coolock Church. John was a town clerk of Dublin City. Dora secondly married Francis
Briscoe on 1 Feb 1854 at Kentstown Parish Church, Navan.
2 Leonard Cornwall eldest son born circa 1814 married Elizabeth Stewart on 26 Feb 1838
at Clondehorkey Parish Church. Elizabeth was the third daughter to William Stewart of
Hornhead, Co Donegal. Leonard died at Brownstown 15 Apr 1873. Elizabeth died
7 Dec 1894 at Brownstown aged 84.
1 William Stewart Cornwall born circa 1840 in Co Donegal, admitted Kings Inns
and worked as a solicitor with offices at South Frederick Street. He inherited
Brownstown House,
2 Dorothea Anne Cornwall married Charles Tottenham on 5 Nov 1874 at St
Peter's, Dublin.
3 Elizabeth Mary Cornwall born circa 1846 in Co Donegal living with her brother
at Brownstown in 1911.

agent of Castle Park, Co Meath, died a bachelor on 24 Mar 1889 at the Grosvenor Hotel on
Westland Row aged 74.

5 William Clutterbuck Cornwall born circa 1819. William a solicitor of 36 Rutland Square
married Rebecca Hennis of 37 Rutland Square 11 Dec 1851 at St Mary’s Church, Dublin.
Rebecca was the daughter of Major Hennis and the niece of Sir John Graham Dayall. They
lived at Richmond in Monkstown and later at Idrone Terrace. Rebecca died 8 Mar 1857
aged 29 years and was buried at Stillorgan. William died 13 Oct 1887 aged 68 and was
buried with his wife.
1 Hastings Hennis Cornwall eldest son born circa 1854 died 20 Jul 1870 and was
buried at Stillorgan Parish graveyard.
2 Douglas William Cornwall born circa 1861 married Emma Julia Cole 8 May 1888
at Monkstown Parish Church. Douglas was a captain in the Royal Irish Fusiliers
and Emma was the daughter of John J Cole, MD. They lived at 2 Idrone Terrace
before moving to Ballysax Manor in Co Kildare.

Richard took Holy orders and died in Kent on 25 Jan 1871.
8 Robert Allen Cornwall youngest son born circa 1829, a land agent of 36 Rutland Square and
Rathmore House married Harriet Elizabeth Crosby of Fitzwilliam Street on 6 Oct 1860 at St
Peter’s Church, Dublin. Harriet was the eldest daughter of Daniel & Margaret Crosby of Eccles
Street and a co-heiress to his estate. Robert of 36 Rutland Square, Dublin and Rathmore House,
Naas, died 22 Jun 1892 aged 64 at Rathmore House. Harriett died 26 Oct 1901 aged 75 at
36 Rutland Square. Both were buried at Stillorgan Parish graveyard.
1 Harriet Matilda (Maud) Cornwall born circa 1862 married her first cousin John
Cornwall on 15 Dec 1887 at St Mary’s Church. John was the son of Leonard
Cornwall of Brown House, Brownstown. They had six children of whom 3 survived to
1911.

2 Robert Cornwall eldest son born 9 Oct 1863 joined the Antrim Artillery and attained
the rank of captain. He was granted the name Lewis Crosby by Royal Patent in 1883
to fulfil the conditions of the Will of his aunt Louisa Crosby. Robert Cornwall Lewis
Crosby died a bachelor 25 May 1890 at Castle Park, Slane, from a fractured skull, the
result of an accident.
3 Ernest Henry Cornwall second son born 28 Dec 1864 at 36 Rutland Square attended
the Portora Royal School, Enniskillen. He graduated Trinity with first class honours
in the Classics and took Holy orders. He was granted a Royal sanction to change his
name to Lewis-Crosby in compliance with a injunction in the will of Louisa Crosby for
inheritance reasons in 1891 after the death of his elder brother. He was honorary
secretary of the Fuh Kien Mission from 1895 to 1904 and was involved in the
foundation of The Girl’s Brigade. He was head of the Church of Ireland Mission of
the Society for Promoting Christianity Among the Jews. He married Hilda Darley
7 Jun 1912 at Kill Church. Hilda was the daughter of Frederick Digby Darley and
Beatrice Waller. He was appointed a canon of Christ Church in 1921 and precentor in
1926. He was rector of Stillorgan from 1924 to 1938 when he became Dean of Christ
Church. The family lived at The Grange, Stillorgan rather than The Rectory. He was a
member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries, and the Old Dublin Society. He died on
18 May 1961 and was buried at St Brigid’s Stillorgan. In 1963 an appreciation of his
life was written by Rt Rev E C Darby Hodges, Principal of the Church of Ireland Training
College, who had been his curate in Drumcondra and Rathmines. The introduction
was written by Eamon De Valera. Hilda died 27 Nov 1970 aged 88 at Bushy Park and
was buried at St Brigid’s.
1 Robert Cornwall (Robin) Lewis-Crosby born 1 May 1915 at Portobello House
married his first cousin; Frances Louisa Darley at Christchurch, Leeson
Park on 5 Oct 1940. Frances was the daughter of Frederick Digby Darley
and Robert was a bombardier in the Royal Artillery. They lived at Gaylawn
on Newtownpark Avenue.
2 Edyth Charity Patricia (Cherry) Lewis-Crosby born 18 Sep 1917 at
Hatherton, Richmond Avenue married Robert Ralph Baron Jobson at St
Brigid’s Church on 18 Jun 1938. Robert was a stock broker and the son of
Thomas Baron Jobson of Holly Park, Newtownpark Avenue.
3 John Lewis-Crosby born 24 Jun 1919 at Hatherton, Richmond Avenue
joined the British Army. He married Diana Ethel Coddington on
12 Aug 1943 at St Mary’s Church, Drogheda. Diana was with the WAAF
and the daughter of Captain Arthur Coddington.
4 Francis Gabriel Cornwall Lewis-Crosby born 20 Dec 1921 at The Rectory,
Rathmines. In 1944, he changed his surname back to Cornwall, on
inheriting Rathmore House under the terms of the will of his uncle Francis
Victor Cornwall and lived at Rathmore House. He married Nancy Winifred
Chaloner at Christ Church Cathedral on 12 Jun 1945. Nancy was the
daughter of Claudius Willoughby Chalonor of Cherrymount, Kells. Francis
died 16 Oct 1949 and left 9K in personal estate. There is a plaque in his
memory at St Brigid’s Church.
5 Hilda Florence (Hillie) Lewis-Crosby youngest daughter married Michael
McNeil Boyd on 15 Sep 1945 at Christ Church Cathedral. Michael was a
captain in the Irish Guards and the son of Robert McNeil Boyd, the Bishop
of Derry.
4 Francis Victor Cornwall born 18 Sep 1867 born at Rathmore was educated at
St Columbas, Rathfarnham. He was a land agent and lived at Rathmore. He
rented a house Maria Duckett's house at 14 Raglan Road in 1922 where he
lived with his sister Florence. He later purchased a property on Clyde Road
and died a bachelor at Burford, Clyde Road on 22 Dec 1938 and was buried
at St Brigid’s graveyard. There is a plaque in his memory in St Brigid’s Church.
5 Florence Dora Louise (Dora Louise) Cornwall born 11 Apr 1869 at 36 Rutland
Square lived with her brother Francis. She died a spinster on 5 Nov 1931 at
Clyde Road and was buried at St Brigid’s graveyard. The East window in St
Brigid’s Church is dedicated in her memory.
6 Violet Louisa Cornwall youngest daughter born 13 Sep 1871 at Rathmore
married Archdeacon Thomas William Clinton of Donaghpatrick Rectory on
22 Jun 1925 at St Brigid's Church, Stillorgan. Thomas was a widow and the
son of Thomas Clinton. Violet died 31 May 1945 and was buried at St Brigid’s.
A stained glass window in St Brigid’s Church is dedicated in her memory.
9 Henrietta Gray Cornwall born circa 1830 married Robert Cooke, J P, D L of Kiltinane Castle,
Co Tipperary on 26 Feb 1864 at St Mary’s Church, Dublin. Henrietta died 13 Jun 1888 at
36 Rutland Square and was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard.
3 Robert Cornwall son of Leonard Cornwall of Rathmines married Susan Clutterbuck of Tipperary
in Dublin in February 1817. They had one child who died in infancy in the lifetime of its said
father. Robert died circa 1868.
4 Abraham Cornwall, a cashier in the Excise-office, Customs House died 10 Jan 1862 without ever
having been married and without lawful issue.
