Cooley family of Seamount (St Helens)
Philip Cooley, a currier (leather dresser) of Dublin died in 1740.
1 Christopher Cooley eldest son baptised at St Nicholas Within on 26 Aug 1702 died before
1740.
2 Thomas Cooley baptised at St Nicholas Within on 4 Dec 1705 son and heir of Philip Cooley,
a currier. He was admitted Kings Inns and had his house and practice at Ship Street. He
married Sarah Ram of the diocese of Ferns on 7 Jul 1740 (ML). She was the daughter of
the late Abel Ram and the sister of Abel, Humphreys and Andrew Ram of Ramsfort and
Clonattin, Gorey. William was MP for Duleek from 1747 to 1755. In 1754 William took a
lease on 8 acres of Owenstown and 15 acres of Booterstown from Lord Fitzwilliam for the
lives of his three daughters. The plots were to the west side of the road from Dublin to
Wicklow. A new wall was to be built to the south of the little brook at Glenna at the yearly
rent was 50L 17s 3p payable quarterly and two sugar loafs at Christmas. These plots were
for the use of his nearly finished house on 1 acre. The house is not named but it is thought
to be Seamount. Thomas died 14 Dec 1755 at Ship Street. Sarah died in 1793.
1 Elinor Cooley born circa 1742 married Major Charles Creicton (Craven) on
26 Aug 1766.
2 Margaret Cooley born circa 1744 died a spinster in 1807 and was interred in vault
No 15 at St Werburgh.
3 Sarah Cooley born circa 1749 died a spinster in November 1829 and was buried at
St Werburgh.
3 Elizabeth Cooly baptised 7 Jun 1707 at St Nicholas Within.
4 Philip Cooley born circa 1708 baptised at St Nicholas Within on 18 Dec 1708. He
graduated Trinity College, took Holy orders and had the living of Kilteel and Rathmore in
the Diocese of Dublin. He was guardian to his three nieces (the daughters of Thomas and
Sarah Cooley). He died in 1758, probate to his sister in law Sarah.
5 Alice Cooly baptised 14 Jul 1710 at St Nicholas Within.
6 James Cooly baptised 14 Oct 1712 at St Nicholas Within.
