Samuel born circa 1807 son of Thomas Colquhoun. He was a solicitor of Newtown House,
Strabane and married Eliza Jane (Jane) Sproule on 13.04.1824 at Strabane. Eliza was the
daughter of Samuel Sproule of Ramelton, Donegal. Eliza Jane died 03.12.1861 at North
Frederick Street, Dublin and Samuel died 27.02.1869 at Newtown House, Strabane. Prayer
desks, lectern stalls and a pulpit were installed at Strabane Church in their memory by their
children in 1879.
1 Martha Colquhoun eldest daughter born circa 1826 died 22 Jul 1848 at Strabane.
2 Jane Colquhoun second daughter born circa 1828 in Co Tyrone. In 1879 she was living
at Cottage, Roebuck and was present at the death of Isaac Butt. She left Roebuck Lodge
in 1885. By 1893 she was living at Waterloo Place and at 30 Waltham Terrace in 1897.
She was living with her sister-in-law Minnie in 1901 at Castletown House and with her
brother William in 1911. Jane died unmarried on 28.11.1912 at Glendermott Rectory,
formerly of 17 Waterloo Place, 30 Waltham Terrace, Blackrock and 14 Thicket Road,
Anerley, Surrey. Probate to brother William.
3 Samuel Colquhoun eldest son died at Montpelier Square London on 27.02.1895.
Probate to his brother the Rev William.
4 John Colquhoun born circa 1835. He was a solicitor and married Minnie Cochran
youngest daughter of Major Cochran late 41st Foot of Belvedere Terrace, Sandymount on
10.01.1860 at Donnybrook Church. They lived at Castletown House, Strabane and had at
least four daughters. John died on 08.02.1901 aged 66 years and Minnie died on
14.10.1915 aged 78 years both at Castletown, Strabane. A stained glass window was
installed at Strabane Church in their memory.
5 Lieutenant Isaac Colquhoun 3rd son born circa 1838. He was with HM 17th Regiment and
married Emeline Sophia Coxworthy youngest daughter of F T Coxworthy, Deputy
Commissary-General on 04.04.1863 at St Luke’s Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia. They had at
least four children. Isaac was Chief of Police in Swansea from 1877 to 1913.
6 Mary Colquhoun married James B Atkins son of late George Atkins of Cork on 02.09.1858 at
Leckpatrick Church, Tyrone.
1 George Herbert Atkins youngest son died on 29.09.1860 aged one year and three
months at Newtown House.
7 Thomas Colquhoun born circa 1842 graduated Trinity College. He was admitted solicitor in
1865. He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Butt on 22.12.1870 at St George’s Church, Dublin. Lizzie
was the 2nd daughter of Isaac Butt, QC. His offices were at Hardwick Street and later at
Bachelor’s Walk. They lived at Cottage, Roebuck from 1879 to 1881. From 1882 to 1890 they
lived at 69 Upper Leeson Steet (the residence of Mary Poppins author; PL Travers in the 1960s).
Thomas died 27.12.1899 aged 58 years at Aylesbury, Bucks. Elizabeth was living with a cousin
in Monaghan in 1901 and died circa 1905.
8 William Colquhoun born circa 1843 in Co Tyrone. He graduated Trinity College and took Holy
orders. He married Maria Cashel on 03.10.1882 at Desertmartin Parish Church. Maria was
the daughter of the late John Cashel of Randalstown. They had six children including Samuel
Randall Sproule Colquhoun, the controversial rector of St John the Evangelist Church in
Sandymount. William was Archdeacon of Derry and rector of Glendermott and retired in
1914. William died at 69 Lansdowne Road on 11 Apr 1920. Maria died on the 28 Aug 1943.
9 David Colquhoun born circa 1844 youngest son Barrister-at-Law married Marie Porter
DuBedat eldest daughter of late Francis DuBedat on 03.08.1869 at St Mary’s Church,
Donnybrook. David was a county court judge and died of phthisis on 18.07.1894 aged 50
years at Prospect House, Greystones. Mary died on 13.04.1901 at Leeson Park.
1 Francis Samuel DuBedat Colquhoun eldest son born 02.04.1870 at North Frederick
Street a solicitor married Margaret Gray Cathrew widow of the late James Humfrey
Cathrew of Donard Demense, Wicklow and eldest daughter of David Moore Colquhoun
of Fahan, Donegal on 10.07.1919 at St Peter’s Church.
2 Jane Ethel Mary Colquhoun born 21.08.1871 at 13 North Frederick Street.
3 David William Sproule Colquhoun born 25.06.1873 at North Frederick Street a barrister-
at-law married Eva Lilian Mostyn daughter of James Newcoman Mostyn on 17.08.1910
at the Parish Church, Bray.
4 Rosa Kathleen Colquhoun born 05.02.1875 at 41 Eccles Street.
5 Arthur Hugh Colquhoun born 27.05.1877 at 41 Eccles Street.
6 Frances Mary Colquhoun born 09.09.1880 at 8 Herbert Road, Sandymount.
7 Eileen Marguerite Colquhoun born 12.04.1883 at 66 Lower Leeson Street.
10 Annie Colquhoun youngest daughter born circa 1847. In 1879 she was living at Cottage,
Roebuck and was present at the death of Isaac Butt. She moved from Roebuck in 1885
and lived at Waterloo place and later at Waltham Terrace. She died on 25.03.1900 aged
63 years at 30 Waltham Terrace. Funeral to Strabane.
