James Hughes born circa 1817. He was a corn merchant of Clonmel and married Mary
Elizabeth Sladen on 3 Apr 1843 at the parish church of Halifax. Mary was the daughter of
Thomas Sladen, a merchant of Mearclough Mills, Sowerby Bridge. They lived at Curraprevin,
Rathcormac, Cork from 1858 to 1872. James died 23.11.1899 at 21 Longford Terrace,
informant his daughter Edith. He is buried at Deansgrange. Mary died on 09.03.1902 at 21
Longford Terrace, informant her daughter Edith. She is buried with her husband.
1 Augustus Frederick Hughes born circa 1845 of Knapton Road married Agnes Carter
of Clonfadda, Merrion Avenue daughter of William Carter on 24.03.1888 at
Booterstown Parish Church. Witness Percy John Hughes. Agnes died on 08.09.1918
aged 58 years at Mount Henry, Dalkey and Augustus died on 26.09.1922 aged 77
years at Sandycove late of Hillbrook, Birr. They are buried at Deansgrange.

2 Lieutenant Colonel Edward Ashton Hughes born circa 1845 formerly of Aldershot and
late of 4 Knapton Road, Kingstown died on 29.12.1887 aged 43 years at Hampstead,
Glasnevin and is buried at Deansgrange. nProbate to his father James Hughes.
3 Percy John Hughes 4th son born circa 1848 late Colonel Commanding 26th Cameronian
Scottish Rifles (HM 20th Regiment in 1868) died on 22.03.1901 at Welland House, New
Barnet and is buried at Deansgrange.
4 George Arthur Hughes 5th son born circa 1851 in Tipperary. George was educated at
Trinity College and joined the army in 1877. He served in the Afghan War 1878,
Bechuanaland Expedition South Africa 1884, Ashanti Expedition 1896, and the Soudan
Expedition 1898. He retired in 1905 and was living at Carrickbrennan by 1910. George
late of the Royal Army Medical Corps died unmarried on 13.04.1926 aged 74 years at
Carrickbrennan and is buried at Deansgrange.
5 Edith Mary Hughes born 1853 in Tipperary died unmarried on 03.12.1935 aged 82
years at Carrickbrennan and is buried at Deansgrange. Carrickbrennan was put up for
sale after her death. She left 35k in personal estate, 3k was left to charities including
Dublin Hospitals, the St Vincent de Paul and the British Legion.
6 Isabelle Ethel Hughes born Cork 1861 married Charles William Soden on 16.10.1902 at
Enniskillen. Charles was the son of Charles James Soden. Charles, a retired army officer
died on 19.10.1922 aged 57 years and Isabella died 24.12.1947 both at Elton Park,
Sandycove. They are buried at Deansgrange.
