Edward Coffey of Ballysax son of James Coffey married Mary Dowling of Ballyfair, C Kildare
on 09.07.1873 at Suncroft Capel, Naas. Mary was the daughter of James Dowling. Edward
of New Park Lodge died at the Eye and Ear Hospital on 17.04.1906. Mary died 18.09.1823 at
Charlemont Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, the informant Joseph E Murray. Both are buried at
Deansgrange.
1 Johanna Coffey born circa 1875 in Kildare living at Moyne Park at the time of her
marriage to Joseph John Murray a butler of Moyne Park son of John Murray on
29.09.1894 at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Abbey, Tuam. Joseph became a ship
steward on the Ulster Royal Mail Service. Joseph died on 07.01.1927 aged 53 years
and Johanna died 13.09.1933 aged 50 years a widow and dressmaker both at 1
Charlemont Avenue, Dun Laoghaire. They are buried at Deansgrange. Informant
son Joseph E Murray
1 John Murray born 25.03.1899 at Knox Street, Ballina. John died on 25.03.1903
aged 4 years at Foxrock and is buried at Deansgrange. Informant his
grandmother Mary Coffey.
2 James Christopher Murray born 23.12.1901 at 11 Coldwell Street, Kingstown.
3 Edward Leo (Leo) Murray born 23.11.1905 at 2 Janeville, Tivoli Road was a motor
mechanic and a member of the Free State forces, he previously worked as a
boat pilot. Leo was shot dead on 01.09.1922 at New Park Lodge. A gunshot to
the head was given as cause of death. The military report stated that Leo was an
escaped prisoner and when national troops went to arrest him at the cottage
and broke into the room, they were fired upon and that the two men were killed
when national troops returned fire. However this does not tally with the
coroners report or the police reports. Tom Keogh who led the raid on the
cottage was not allowed testify and he was killed in Bandon three weeks later.
Leo is buried at Deansgrange with his cousin Charles (Rodney/Charlie) Murphy.

20.12.1953 aged 75 years at 1 Charlemont Avenue, Dun Laoghaire.
4 Brigid Coffey born 30.08.1880 at Ballyowen, Carrickmines. Brigid was working as a
servant in Hawthorn, Blackrock. She married Charles Murphy of Cornelscourt son
of Charles Murphy on 19.06.1900 at the Roman Catholic Church, Cabinteely.
Witnesses Elizabeth Dowling and Thomas Sinnott. The family were living at 35 Kill
Lane in 1911.
1 Charles Joachim (Charlie/Rodney) Murphy born 19.08.1900 at Cabinteely was
a labourer and later a soldier of the Irish Republic. He was shot dead at New
Park Lodge on 01.09.1922, gunshot wounds to the stomach, spleen and head
were given as cause of death. He is buried in Deansgrange with his cousin Leo
Murray.

Laoghaire married Elizabeth Brady a widow of Beech Grove, Booterstown daughter
of Percival Neville on 19.02.1922 at Booterstown Roman Catholic Church. John died
on 09.01.1944 aged 52 years at Beech Grove, Booterstown and is buried with his
mother in Deansgrange.
10 Joachim Coffey son born 28.05.1894 at Foxrock. Joachim a Railway Clerk of 1
Charlemont Avenue, Dun Laoghaire married Jane Ferguson daughter of Patrick
Ferguson on 23.02.1925 at the Roman Catholic Church, Monkstown. Witness
