William Carleton born circa 1775. He was a whole sale hosiery and shoe manufacturer of 48
Castle Street. He married Eliza Whitfield. He was a member of the select vestry and was
appointed treasurer of St Werburghs Parochial Schools in 1840. He died 13 Nov 1851 at
Castle Street.
1 Thomas Carleton eldest son born circa 1802 died in New Orleans, America in November
1832.
2 Eliza Carleton married Thomas Abbott of Mary’s Abbey on 24 August 1825 at St Mary’s,
Dublin.
3 Edward Carleton born at Castle Street baptised at St Werburghs on 11 Jun 1805.
4 Anne Carleton born at Castle Street baptised 22 Sep 1806 at St Werburghs.
5 Edward Carleton born at Castle Street baptised at St Werburghs on 8 Dec 1809.
6 Richard Carleton born at Castle Street baptised at St Werburghs on 15 May 1811 was
a boot and shoe manufacturer of Castle Street and Westmoreland Street from 1856 .
He married Susan Abbott at Sefton Church in February 1853 and was church warden
of St Werburghs that year. Susan was the daughter of the late James Abbott of
Miramichi, New Brunswick. The ceremony was performed by Rev William Whitworth,
uncle to the bride. Susan died 7 Mar 1862 at Enderley, Dundrum and was buried at
Mount Jerome.

2 Annie Abbott Carleton born at 33 Castle Street baptised 8 Jul 1857 at St
Werburghs. She married John Hunter Stokes on 10 Jun 1881 at Sandford
Church her uncle Henry Carleton officiated. John was the son of the late Samuel
P Stokes.
Richard was living at Woodville, Sandford and secondly married Cordelia Stephens on
14 May 1863 at St Peter’s Church. Cordelia was the daughter of William Robert
Stephens, a merchant and Cordelia Stokes. He was hon treasurer of the Female
Assistant's Home at York Street. In 1871 Richard closed the retail branch at Castle
Street. Richard died 12 Sep 1879 at 34 Sandford Road, Ranelagh, his daughter Annie
the informant. He was buried at Mount Jerome. The Westmoreland Street store was
taken over by J E Downes and continued to trade and was put up for sale in 1881
along with a warehouse in Baggot Street that was rented out. Cordelia went to Australia
where she died in1911.
3 Cordelia Ada Carleton born 21 Mar 1864 at Woodville, Sandford. She moved to
Australia. She was living at ‘Sandford’, Brinsley Road, Camberwell, Victoria,
Australia in 1911. She died unmarried in 1935.
4 Alfred Ernest Henry Carleton born 28 Jan 1866 at Woodville, Sandford. He
married Jane Johnston in Victoria, Australia in 1891. He was an architect and
lived at Claremont Crescent in Canterbury, Australia in 1911. He died
18 Feb 1936 in Australia.
5 Charles Augustus Edward Carleton born 4 Aug 1867 at Palmerton Road died in
1868 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
6 Frances Eva Carleton born September 1868 at Rathmines married Richard Ring
Young at Victoria in 1911.
7 Evelina Constance Carleton born 15 May 1872 at Frankfort House Rathmines.
She died unmarried in Victoria, Australia in 1961.
7 Edward Christopher Carleton born at Castle Street baptised 12 July 1812 at St
Werburghs. As third son he was admitted Kings Inns in 1830. He married Mary Anne
Wilson in May 1841 at St George’s Church. Marian was the second daughter of John
Wilson of Eccles Street. The lived at Old Bawn Bray and Kildare Street. Edward died
in 1887 at Kildare Street.
8 Henry Carleton born 4 Feb 1814 was educated at Trinity. As third son, he was admitted
Kings Inns in 1836 but later took Holy orders. He married Eliza Wilson in October 1837
at Crumlin Church. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Wilson of Laurel Lodge, Terenure
Co Dublin. He was rector of Drumcondra for 25 years and died 24 Dec 1897 at 54
Drumcondra Road. A new pulpit and prayer table were installed in his memory in 1898.
1 Emma Mary Carleton born circa 1842. As last surviving daughter she died in 1905
and was buried at Drumcondra.
2 Edward William Carleton born circa 1843 died in 1909.
3 Annie Carleton second daughter married Edward Thomas Kennedy in 1873.
Edward was the son of James Birch Kennedy.
9 William Carleton, a partner in his father’s firm in 1843 died in Castle Street in June
1844.
