Henry Browne born circa 1775 son of Robert Browne and Elizabeth Warner of Ballinvoher,
Castletown-Roche. He was a barrister, a captain in the Co Limerick militia and a deputy
governor of the Co Limerick. He married Isabella Galway on 8 Oct 1796. Isabella was the
eldest daughter of William Galwey of Mallow. Isabella died in Mallow in October 1817.
1 William Henry Browne eldest born 20 Aug 1800 in Cork was educated at Charleville
school and at Trinity College, Dublin. He took holy orders and went to Tasmania as a
chaplain. He married Caroline Johnston Willis on 3 Sep 1829 at Wanstead. Caroline
was the second daughter of Richard Willis of Conara. Caroline died at Launceston in
February 1845. He was Rector of St John's Church from 1828 to 1868.

2 Justin McCarthy Browne eldest son born 1830 married Katherine Harris on
26 Oct 1867 at Trinity Church. Katherine was the second daughter of the Rev
Richard Deodatus Poulett Harris. Justin was the landlord of 270 acres in Ballivoher
and died in 1889 at Launceston, Hobart.
3 Henry Norman Browne second son born 1832 married Mary Luisa LeCesne on
28 Jul 1859 at St John’s Launceston. Mary was the eldest daughter of Lewis William
LeCesne of Rio de Janeiro and Bath and was the niece of John Peter Hobkirk.

4 Isabella Anne Browne eldest daughter born 1833 married George Birnie of
Williamstown, Victoria on 21 Sep 1857 at St John’s, Hobart town.
5 Fannie Louisa Browne born 1835 married Willam Lambert Dobson on 17 Mar 1859
at Launceston and they had at least six children. William was a barrister, later a
judge and then attorney general. He was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1886 and
was appointed KCMG in 1897. William died in 1895 and Fannie died in 1935.
William secondly married Julia Augusta Gavan on 25 Jun 1846. Julia was the youngest
daughter of Rev John Gavan of Walls Town, Co Cork. He returned to Ireland for a few
years after to death of his father to settle his affairs. William was archdeacon of
Launceston, Tasmania from 1870 to 1877. William died 18 Jun 1877 at his residence
Bifrons and Julia died circa 1899.

2 James Thomas Browne born 1803 took Holy orders. He was curate of Kinsale and married
Martha Abbott in November 1834. Martha was the second daughter of John G Abbott of
Lower South Terrace, Cork. He was rector of Kinsale until he resigned in 1838.
James secondly married Sarah Elizabeth Greenstreet St Giles’ Church, Northampton on
2 Aug 1842. Sarah was the eldest daughter of Major General Greenstreet of the East India
Company Service. He was appointed to St Edmund’s in 1846 and later he was vicar of
Isleham. They had at least eight children. James died on 3 Feb 1872 at Cambridge.

2 Edward Montague Browne fourth son born circa 1844 in Northampton was a solicitor
and married Rose Ellen Batley on 15 Apr 1879 in Harlinstow, Northampton. Rose was
the daughter of the late W Batley, CE. Edward died in 1928. He was survived by five
sons, one daughter and seven siblings.

to Tasmania. He was the postmaster of Launceston in 1837 and married Anne Collins
11 Aug 1845 at Launceston, Tasmania. Anne was 39 and the daughter of John Collins. He
applied to retire as postmaster in 1860 citing ill health. Anne died 1 Mar 1865 at Notting Hill,
London. No issue found.
St John secondly married Isabella Galwwy on 27 Nov 1866 at Callan. Isabella was the fourth
daughter of Dr John Dupont Galwey of Mallow. St John died 2 Feb 1880 at 19 Waterloo Place
and was buried at Stillorgan. He left 8k in personal estate and probate was to his nephew
Edward Montague Browne. Isabella died 24 Jun 1904 aged 84 at Waterloo Place, Dublin and
was buried at Stillorgan.
4 Henry Browne died unmarried at sea in 1839.
5 Anna Constance Browne born 9 Feb 1802 died 1 Jul 1881 at Lower Leeson Street and
was buried at Stillorgan.
6 Elizabeth Isabella Browne died in 1813.
Henry secondly married his cousin Mary Vicars on 20 Jul 1820 at Stillorgan Church. Mary was
the widow of William Stringer Vicars of Grantstown, Queens County and the daughter of
Gustavus Warner. Henry Browne died on 20 Aug 1849 aged 74 at Upper Merrion Street and
was buried at Stillorgan. Mary died in 1865.
6 Mary Brown youngest daughter born circa 1821 died at Rathmines in May 1831.
