Captain William Bredin son of late Major General Andrew Bredin of the Royal Artillery married
Catherine Gabbett eldest daughter of John Fitzgerald Gabbett of Redmondstown, Tipperary
in 1852. William was a Sub-Agent of the Bank of Ireland and they were married by Rev
Andrew Noble Bredin the Rector of Taney. Catherine died 28.06.1860 at Blakeney, Parade,
Sandymount and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Captain John Fitzgerald Windham Bredin born 10.08.1854 born at Brighton Vale,
Monkstown died unmarried of TB on 22.05.1888 aged 33 years at Castlegarde*. Probate
to his brother Waldene Fitzwilliam Hutchinson Bredin.
2 William Edgar Noble Bredin born circa 1855. Captain Bredin traveled to Ireland for the
funeral of his father in May 1888. Whilst there his brother John also died. Suffering from
ill health William returned to England where he died on 02.07.1888 at the Hall, Hawtry,
Yorkshire. Probate to his half brother Walderre Fitzwilliam Hutchinson Bredin.
William a widower married secondly Eliza (Zilah) Selina Maria Hutchinson O’Grady Widow of
Hugh Hamon Massy O’Grady of Castlegarde, Limerick daughter of late William Henry
Hutchinson of Rock Forrest, Tipperary on 28.06.1862 at Monkstown Church, Dublin. William
died 20.05.1888 at Pallasgreen, Limerick.
3 Zillah Edith Georgina Christina Hutchinson Bredin born 28.10.1863 at St Bridget’s,
Milltown. Zillah married Vere David Urquhart Hunt son of George Hodges
Urquhard Hunt on 07.11.1888 at the Parish Church of Cappamore, Limerick. They
lived at Cahernahallia, Tipperary in 1911.
4 Waldene Fitzwilliam Hutchinson Bredin born 28.08.1866 at Trimbleston House,
Merrion, Donnybrook. Major Waldene of the Royal Irish Regiment and Magistrate for
the Kings County married Elizabeth Sarah Cooper-Chadwick 2nd daughter of Richard
Austin Cooper-Chadwick of Ballinard, Tipperary on 04.01.1892 at the Parish Church of
Cullen, Tipperary. They lived at New Road, Kilkenny in 1911. Waldene died on
24.04.1938 of the Crofts, Victoria Hill Road, Fleet, Hampshire. Probate to widow Elizabeth.
1 Waldene Edgar Bredin born 19.10.1892 at Mountain Lodge, St Mary’s, Waterford.
5 John Dawson Hutchinson Bredin born 09.11.1871 at Castlegarde. John married Mary Ann
Morrris on 20.08.1903 at the Church of the Ascension, Cala, South Africa.
*Castlegarde had been in the O’Grady family for over a century. Standish the eldest son of Waller
O’Grady died in 1849 and Castlegarde was inherited by 2nd son Hugh Hamon Massy O’Grady who
married Zilah Selina Hutchinson in 1857. Hugh died in 1859 and Zilah married William Bredin in
1862. When William Bredin died in 1888, Hugh Hamon Massy O’Grady son of Hugh took over
Castlegarde.
