Bickerstaff family of Wickham
John Bickerstaff of Kenagh, Co Longford married Rebecca Crawford of Loughan in February
1784. Died circa 1826.
John Crawford Bickerstaff married Jane (possibly Leonard) and died 18 Oct 1843. Jane was
still alive in 1853.
1 Francis Bickerstaff born circa 1788 was a captain in the Royal Navy. He died unmarried
on 27 Dec 1862.
2 James Bickerstaff born circa 1790 married Lydia Moore on 5 May 1812 (ML) in Dublin.
Lydia died a widow on 10 Nov 1852 at Sandymount Avenue.
1 Letitia Hannah Bickerstaff of Cullenswood married William Jonathan Deverell
of Booterstown at St Peter's Church on 4 May 1841.
3 Rebecca Jane Bickerstaff born circa 1794 married Francis Low. They lived at Merrion
Castle. Francis died 14 Jan 1859 aged 70 at Merrion Castle and Rebecca died at Torca
Lodge Dalkey on 10 Sep 1865.
1 Francis Low born circa 1832 married Anne Elizabeth Curry and lived at Avonmore,
Stillorgan.
4 Margaret Anne Bickerstaff born circa 1796 married Rev Benjamin Cronyn circa 1825 and
they moved to Canada in 1832. Benjamin was the son of Thomas Cronyn, one time Mayor
of Kilkenny. Benjamin became the first Bishop of Huron, Canada and died at London,
Canada on 22 Sep 1871 aged 69.
5 John Crawford Bickerstaff married Elizabeth Canning on 7 Jan 1830 (marriage settlement).
John died in London in 1854. His will written in 1853 was proved in London in June 1854.
It mentions his mother Jane Bickerstaff, his aunt Alicia Bickerstaff, his brother Francis, his
wife Elizabeth and their four children. Elizabeth died at Lislea on 26 Feb 1875 aged 67.

31 Dec 1897.
2 Leonard Francis Bickerstaff born circa 1836 went to Australia. He was a draper
and married twice. He died in Melbourne, Victoria in 1896.
3 Jane Elizabeth Bickerstaff eldest daughter married John Robinson of Lisglassick on
10 Nov 1859 at Kilcommack.
4 Rebecca Jane Bickerstaff youngest daughter married Rev Thomas Henry on
6 Apr 1854 at St Peter's Church, Dublin. Thomas was a widower and the rector
of Kilcommack.
6 Leonard Bickerstaff born circa 1799. He was living at Belvedere Square, Dublin and
married Catherine (Kate) Monsarrat at St George’s Dublin on 21 Jul 1830. Catherine was
the second daughter of Mark Monserrat, a wine merchant of Summerhill and his second
wife. In 1831 Leonard was a partner in the banking and stockbroking firm of Low &
Bickerstaff (later traded as Boyle & Bickerstaff). They lived at Wickham from 1842 to 1848
which he leased from the Kehoes. They moved to Runnymede circa 1856. Leonard died
30 Apr 1858 at Lislea, Co Longford late of Runnymede, Dundrum and 35 College Green.
He is membered on a memorial at Kilcommock Church. Probate to his widow. Catherine
was at 2 Sandford Terrace, Ranelagh by 1868 where she died on 7 Apr 1891.
1 Marcus John Bickerstaff eldest son of Sandford Terrace, Cullenswood baptised at
St Peter’s on 20 Oct 1834. He graduated Trinity College, Dublin in 1857. Marcus as
eldest son married Annie Pollock on 16 Dec 1856 at St Peter’s Church. Annie was
the daughter of John Pollock of upper Leeson Street. He was junior curate of St
Mary’s, Dublin in 1859, Cheltenham until 1864, St Michan’s from 1868 to 1871.
He was appointed vicar of Cookley in 1876 and died at Meridale Road
Wolverhampton on 24 Jun 1910.

who survived but a few hours.
3 Son Bickerstaff born 23 Sep 1862 at Madelay, Salop.

2 Henry Irwin Bickerstaff second son born circa 1835 died 23 Aug 1855 at Sandford
Terrace.
3 Jane Bickerstaff eldest daughter of Leeson Street baptised at St Peter’s on
17 July 1836. She married John William Henry on 25 Apr 1872 at St Paul’s, Belfast.
John was the son of William Henry of Liverpool.
4 Catherine Bickerstaff of Leeson Street baptised at St Peters on 1 Apr 1839 died
9 Nov 1861 at Victoria Terrace, Rathgar.
5 Stillborn son Bickerstaff on 20 Jun 1842.
6 Stillborn daughter Bickerstaff 22 Jun 1845 at Wickham.
7 Charles Leonard Bickerstaff of Wickham baptised at St Peters 1 Aug 1845. He died
as youngest son on 15 May 1856 at Sandford Terrace.
8 Rebecca Margaret Anne Bickerstaff born November 1846 at Wickham, Dundrum
baptised at St Peter’s on 20 Jan 1847. Rebecca youngest daughter married Rev
Thomas Roberts Hardy, BA on 13 May 1884 at Sandford Church. Thomas was a
curate of Clonmel and the only son of the late Lieut- Colonel Hardy, 58th regiment.
