John Ardill born circa 1753 sworn in attorney in 1771. He married Miss Polls of Tinnepark,
King’s County in December 1773. Miss Polls was thought to have a considerable fortune.
1 Mary Ann Ardill eldest daughter born circa 1774 died at Charlemont Place on
12 Mar 1851 and was buried at St Peters.
2 Catherine Ardill second daughter born circa 1787 died 24 Aug 1835 at Aungier Street
and was buried at St Peters.
He was an attorney of Great Longford Street and secondly married Sarah Bewley on
16 Jan 1790 (ML). Sarah was of Abbeyleix, Queens County. He moved his practice to 74
Aungier Street circa 1805. He was a clerk of the peace for Westmeath for 51 years. John died
at Aungier Street on 28 Nov 1835 and was buried at St Peters. Sarah died aged 81 on
22 Nov 1839 at Rathmines and was buried at St Peters.
3 John William Ardill eldest son born circa 1791 in Dublin. He graduated Trinity College
and was admitted Kings Inns. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1814. He married Delia
(possibly Sarah Williams) circa 1817. He died 28 Mar 1846 at Blessington Street and
was buried at St Peters. Delia died a widow aged 75 on 30 Dec 1874 at Broomholm,
Langholm, Scotland, the residence of her son in Law George Maxwell. Their daughter
Charlotte erected a tablet in their memory at Broomholm.
1 Charlotte Ardill only daughter married George Maxwell on 10 Aug 1840 at St
Mary’s Church, Dublin. George was from Broomholm, Dumfriesshire.
1 Elizabeth Maxwell born 11 Jul 1842 at Blessington Street, Dublin.
2 Charlotte Delia Maxwell born circa born circa 1844 at Drumfriesshire.
3 David A Maxwell born circa 1846 at Drumfriesshire.
4 Thomas George Ardill 1792 second son of John of Augier Street was a cornet in the 23rd
Regiment of the Light Dragoons under the command of the Earl of Portarlington and
served at the Battle of Waterloo. He was admitted King’s Inns a clerk of the Crown for
Longford and Westmeath. He married Jane Smith on 5 Aug 1817 at Kilmeaden Church
near Waterford. Sarah was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Smith. She was the sister
of Alderman John Smith Fleming (later Mayor of Dublin). In 1862 Thomas was appointed
Cavan solicitor for Longford and Cavan. They lived at Manor House from 1863 to 1865.
Thomas of 72 Aungier Street and Manor House, Dundrum died 29 Jul 1865 at Moate
Lodge, Co Westmeath. He was in partnership with Henry Colclough Stephen's with
premises at Aungier Street. He left 7k in personal estate administration to his widow Jane
of 33 Waterloo Road who left un unadministered. Jane died 25 Feb 1866 at l’Avenue des
Champs Elysee, Paris.
1 Selina Jane Ardill only child born circa 1818 baptised at St Peter’s Dubin on
26 May 1818. She died at 9 Crescent, Upper Bangor, North Wales in October 1888.
5 Richard Ardill born circa 1801 graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders. He married
Louisa Watts in October 1825. Louisa was the second daughter of George Watts of Dublin
and Jockey Hall, Co Kildare. Richard was chaplain to the Lord Lieutenant in 1838. He was
secretary of the Incorporated Society for English Protestant Schools in Ireland. The moved to
Johnstown House circa 1848. Richard was senior curate at St Peter’s Dublin for 30 years and
was appointed to the vicarage of Kilternan and the curacy of Kilgobbin in 1857. He never
took up the post due to inflammation of the lungs. Richard died 10 Feb 1858 late of
Johnstown House, Cabinteely and 73 Harcourt Street. He left 4k in personal estate, probate
to his wife Louisa who died 1 May 1889 at Hyeres, South of France.
1 Harriette St George Ardill eldest daughter married Osborne Barwell Cannon at
Monkstown Church on 26 Aug 1856. Osborne was a captain in the 97th Regiment and
the son of Major William Cannon of Corberry, Dumfries, Scotland.
2 Louisa Katherine Ardill second daughter born November 1835 at Harrington Street
married William How on 11 Jun 1857 at St Peters Church, Dublin. Louise was resident
at 73 Harcourt Street and William was of Gordon House, Turnham Green, Chiswick.
3 John George Albert Ardill born 4 Jan 1842 at Mount Anville died in February 1842 and
was buried at St Peters.
4 Kate S Ardill, third daughter married George Hankey of Fraut, Tunbridge Wells at St
Saviour's Church, Upper Chelsea on 18 Aug 1880.
5 Henrietta Caroline Ardill born 25 Apr 1844 at Aungier Street. She died unmarried at
Kensington London on 26 Nov 1910.
6 Emma Ardill born 22 Dec 1842 at 55 Aungier Street married William Barlow at Kill of
the Grange Church on 8 Feb 1870, William a barrister was the second son of Peter
Barlow, QC.
7 Elizabeth Mary Ardill youngest daughter married William Henry Bewley on 7 Mar 1871
at Kill O' the Grange Church. William was the son of Thomas Bewley of Rockville.
6 Annabella Ardill youngest daughter married Gilbert Conry on 19 Jul 1821 at St Peter’s Church.
Gilbert was the only son of John Conry of Clonshee, Roscommon. Gilbert died circa 1834.
Annabella died 21 Oct 1863 at Rathmines.
1 Sarah Conry only daughter born circa 1825 died in October 1833 at 74 Aungier Street,
the home of her grandfather.
