Alpheus Smith born circa 1805 at Castle Donnington son of William and Elizabeth Smith. He
married Anne Barratt from Burton on Trent on 25 Dec 1827. He was carrier and sold on his
business in 1837. He was a salt dealer & publican (The Dusty Miller). The moved to
Ballykisteen circa 1858. Anne died on 17 May 1876 at Ballykisteen House, Solloghodbeg, and
as buried at Cullen graveyard.

5 Emma Eliza Smith second daughter born circa 1835 at Shardlow, Derbyshire married
Samuel Hall at Cullen Parish Church on 7 Apr 1861. Samuel was a merchant from Derby
and the son of John Hall.
6 Martha Smith fourth daughter born circa 1840 at Castle Donnington married Richard
Henry Ratcliffe at Cullen Church on 11 Sep 1867. Richard was the son of the late Robert
Ratcliffe of Derby.
7 Frederick Smith born circa 1844 in Castle Donnington living with his parents in Derby in
1851.
8 Maryanne Smith born circa 1846 in England daughter married Joseph Jeffries Warde on
6 Aug 1864 at Cullen Parish Church. Joseph was the second son of Samuel W Warde of
Mallow. Joseph was a hotel keeper and they had eight children. Joseph died 28 Nov 1879
aged 38 at Limerick Junction, Co Tipperary. Mary was living at Garrane, Cashel in 1901
and 1911.
9 Harriet Emma Smith fifth daughter born circa 1847 in Derbyshire married Francis Daniel
(Frank) Black at the Parish Church of Cullen, Co Tipperary on 17 Oct 1868. Frank of Lower
Mall Cork was the son of Alexander Black.
10 Annie Barratt Smith youngest daughter born circa 1850 in Derbyshire married James
Henry Black on 9 Apr 1872 at Cullen Church, Co Tipperary. James of Mullingar was the
son of Alexander Black.
11 Alpheus Edwin (Edwin) Smith born 1851 in Derby. Alpheus of Ballykisteen, Tipperary
married Matilda Lucy (Lucy) Maunsell on 16 Sep 1879 at St John’s, Sandymount. Matilda
was the only child of Captain Daniel Maunsell and Anna Lucinda Billing of 65 Sandymount
Avenue. They lived at Seapoint Manor from 1890 to 1891. He was bankrupt in 1893 and
moved back to Ballykisteen. Alpheus died circa 1896 and Matila, a widow was living at
Brighton Road, Rathmines.
1 Albert Edwin Maunsell Smith born 15 Sep 1880 at 65 Park Avenue worked for
Bank of Ireland. He enlisted as a lieutenant in the 5th Battalion Royal Irish
Fusiliers and attained the rank of Captain. He married Eileen Dorothy Crawford
on 12 Nov 1918 at Holy Trinity Church Rathmines. Eileen was living at 5
Cambridge Villas and the daughter of George Hill Crawford, an accountant.
Albert a widow of 11 Merrion Square died on 25 Feb 1956 at 37 Lower Leeson
Street and was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Albert Maunsell Smith born 20 Jan 1920 died an infant on 16 Mar 1920.
2 Florence Maunsell Smith only daughter born 15 Mar 1882 at 1 Gilford Road,
Sandymount died on 13 Dec 1890 aged 9 years at Seapoint Manor, Blackrock and
is buried at Deansgrange.
Matilda secondly married William Somerville Lowndes son of James Lowndes of 75 Wellington
Road on 1 Dec 1903 at St Brigid’s Church, Castleknock. William born at Carysfort Avenue had
been baptised at Christ Church, Blackrock and was a bank cashier. In 1911 they were living
at Bath, Somerset. Matilda died on 29 May 1924 aged 67 in Bath and left 5k in personal estate.
Probate to her husband William.
Alpheus secondly married widow Maria Astill on 18 Jul 1877 at St Alkmund, Derby. Maria was the
daughter of John Goodwin. In 1882 Alpheus was living at Rathgar Road, Dublin and decided to return
to England. Alpheus died 5 Sep 1884 at Duffield Road, Derby. He left 6k in personal estate in Ireland.
