John D Henry eldest son of John Henry of Richardstown and Anna Eliza Leland of Drogheda
born circa 1820. He was resident at Hardwick Street and married Louisa Julia Stokes at St
George’s Church, Dublin on 2 Jun 1855. Louisa was living at Dorset Street and was the only
daughter of the late John Stokes, Surgeon, MD. John was executor to his uncle Alexander
Henry of Vesey Place in 1866 and he also acted as executor to Alexander Henry of Rathscar
the same year. Louisa died 2 Jun 1888 at 7 Vesey Terrace, Kingstown. John a JP and
widower died at 7 Vesey Terrace Kingstown on 21 Mar 1891 and left 41K in personal estate,
executors his son Alexander Henry and his daughter Anna Mary Middleton.
1 Louisa Katherine Henry eldest daughter born at Vesey Place on 6 Mar 1856. She
married Alexander Joseph Henry of Rathscar House Co Louth at Monkstown Church
on 1 Aug 1877. Alexander was the son of Alexander Henry and died on 8 Jun 1895.
1 Louisa Eleanor Henry born circa 1880 in Co Dublin.
Louisa secondly married widower William Courtney on 9 Jul 1896 at St Peter's Church,
Dublin. They had further children.
2 Alexander Henry born circa 1860. He was of Richardstown Castle, Dunleer, Co Louth
and married Evelyn Elizabeth (Eva) Barnes on 2 Jan 1892 at St Stephen’s Church,
Dublin. Elizabeth was living at 57 Upper Mount Street and was the only child of the
late Captain Richard Moore Barnes of the 50th Queen’s Own Regiment, Royal West
Kent Regiment and Mary Rose Watson Manders. They were married by Eva’s cousin
the Rev R D H Massy. Alexander a JP died 4 Jun 1897 at Richardstown Castle. He is
buried at Saint Nicholas Graveyard, Stabannan, County Louth. He left 29k in personal
estate and one of his executors was Joseph Francis William Henry. Eva and the
children were living at Richardstown in 1901 and they had a Swiss governess. Eva was
a renowned horse woman and followed the hounds. She moved to Ardlui by 1942.
She died 24 Jan 1951 aged 85 at Ardlui, Newtown Park Avenue and was buried at
Deansgrange with her daughter and grandson. She left 40k in personal estate.
1 Walter Alexander Dawson Henry born 2 Mar 1893 at 55 Pembroke Road. He
was an accomplished horseman and joined the 8th Hussars. He fought during
WW1 and it was reported that he had been seriously wounded in his arm and
both legs in 1918. In fact he had both legs amputated. He married Simone
Jeanne Marguerite Dauphin of 200 Rue de Rovoli, Paris on 12 Mar 1919 whom he
met at a party at her father's house in 1916. Her father was a banker and a
member of the Paris Bourse. Walter put Richardstown Castle up for sale in 1923
and they moved to 1 Fitzwilliam Square. Simone won an action for slander against
Frances MacKenzie of Stradbrook Hall, Blackrock in 1926. Mrs MacKenzie was
unhappy about Simone's relationship with her son Rublin MacKenzie and had
harangued her on a Dublin city street. In 1927 Walter’s valet stole a diamond and
ruby ring from the house and was charged. Walter and Simone moved to France
shortly afterwards.
2 Eveline Rose Henry born 26 Oct 1897 posthumously at Richardstown. She
married the Hon Francis John Ingoldsby Tristram (Tristram) Massy at Dunleer
Church on 14 Jan 1920. Francis was with the Royal Field Artillery and was the
second son of Hugh Somerset John Massy, 7th Baron Massy of Duntrileague
and his wife Ellen Ida Constance Wise. Francis died on 24 Nov 1929 aged 34 at
a nursing home in Essex. Eveline was an accomplished horsewoman and
hunted with the Kildare Hounds, the North Kildare Harriers and the Ward Union
Stag Hounds. The Hon Evaline Massy died 25 Dec 1941 (Christmas Day) at Leixlip
Castle and was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Cyril John Massy born 20 May 1925. He died unmarried on 7 April 1947 and
is buried at Deansgrange.
3 Anna Mary Henry second daughter born circa 1865 married Thomas Benjamin
Midleton 24 Jun 1890 at Monkstown Church. Thomas, a solicitor was the eldest son
of Alfred Hancock Middleton, solicitor of Athgoe Park, Shankhill, Co Dublin. In 1911
they were living at Shankill and all of their five children had survived. Thomas died in
1931 and Anna a widow died at Foxrock in 1955. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
