Andrew Godfrey Stuart born December 1790 second son of Andrew Thomas Stuart, first Earl
of Castle Stewart and his wife Sarah Lill. He graduated Trinity College, Dublin. He was high
sheriff of Tyrone and married Sophia Isabella Conyngham on 10 Jan 1814 at Moneymore.
Sophia was the daughter of G L Conyngham of Spring Hill, Londonderry. He was a JP and DL
of Co Tyrone. He was treasurer of the County of Tyrone in 1836. Sophia died 24 Jun 1854 at
Crevenagh. He had an interest in genealogy and wrote ‘A Genealogical and Historical Sketch
of the Stuarts of the House of Castlestuart in Ireland’ in 1854. Andrew served as a governor
of the Lunatic Asylum from 1855. The Lisdhu/Lisdoe estate was sold through the Encumbered
Courts in 1855. He lived with his unmarried daughters at Avondale, Avoca Avenue from 1862
to 1867. He died 7 Jan 1872 at 4 Avoca Terrace, Blackrock, his son Burleigh his executor. He is
buried at Desertcreat near Cookstown.
1 Andrew Thomas Stuart eldest son born 6 Nov 1814 educated at Trinity College, Dublin.
He married Mary Gilmore and emigrated to Australia where he commenced sheep
farming. He later moved to Tasmania and took up a position with the penal stations and
was superintendent of the Port Arthur, Impression Bay and Cascades settlements.
Andrew died 5 Aug 1894 in Hobart, Tasmania survived by a widow and fourteen children.
2 George William Conyngham Stuart second son born circa 1815. He was a captain and an
adjutant in the Royal North Down Rifles and married Marianne Foster on 7 Dec 1854 at
St Peter’s Church, Eaton Square London. Marianne was the only surviving child of James
Crutwell and the widow of Rev Aaron Foster of Milton Lodge, Wells. George died
10 Jul 1871 at Dunaghadee.
3 Charlotte Augusta Stuart eldest daughter (twin) born 20 Jun 1818 at Lisdhu, Co Tyrone.
She married Rev George Robinson on 4 Mar 1847 at New Mills Church, Co Tyrone. Rev
George was the only son of George Robinson, barrister of Armagh. Charlotte died
18 Dec 1891 at Beech Hill, Armagh.
4 John James Ochiltree Stuart (twin) born 20 Jun 1818 at Lisdhu, Co Tyrone joined the
Madras Army. He was a lieutenant and adjutant with the 5th Regiment MNI and died on
19 Mar 1845 at Bellary from cholera.
5 Sarah Henrietta Caroline Sophia Stuart second daughter born 22 Oct 1819 at Lisdhu, Co
Tyrone married John Graves Thompson of Armagh on 17 Sep 1845 at Newmills Church.
John was a barrister and assumed the name Livingston in 1863. They were living at
Combe House, Westbury upon Trym in 1881. John died 17 May 1902 at Clifton and
Henrietta died 23 Apr 1910. They are buried in Bristol.
6 Daughter Stuart born 10 Dec 1820 at Lisdhu.
7 Burleigh William Henry Fitzgibbon Stuart born July 1823 at Lisdhu, Co Tyrone. He
attained the rank of Major in the Tyrone Fusiliers. He married Susan Mary Briscoe on
12 Oct 1863 at Fecarry House by special licence. Susan Mary was the only child of the
late Henry Briscoe of the HEICS. Susan died on 28 Feb 1870 in Bournemouth leaving
behind at least four children.
Burleigh secondly married Charlotte Anne Ellis on 5 Sep 1872 at Mountfield Church,
Omagh and they had at least two children. Charlotte was the daughter of Lieut-Col
Francis Ellis of Fecarry House. Burleigh died 9 Oct 1905 at Dergmoney, Omagh aged 82.
Charlotte died on 2 Sep 1931 in London aged 89.
8 Olivia Anna Octavia Stuart fourth daughter born circa 1825 died unmarried on 4 Jul 1913
at Dungannon.
9 Sophia Letitia Stuart fifth daughter born 28 Nov 1826 at Lissellin, Co Tyrone. She was
resident at Avondale, Avoca Avenue and married Charles Edward Gee Barnard of South
Caves, Yorkshire on 5 Jun 1862 at St George’s, Hanover Square. She died a widow on
28 Sep 1910 at Cave Castle aged 80.
10 Robert Arthur Walter Charles Stuart youngest son born circa 1828. He attained the rank
of lieutenant colonel in the Madras Army. He married Louisa Frances Burton on
24 Apr 1855 at Welton. Louisa was the third daughter of Edmund Sing Burton of Churchill,
Northamptonshire. Robert died 20 Aug 1875 at Corrig, Castle Terrace, Kingstown.
11 Anna Florence Eleanor Stuart sixth daughter born 12 Aug 1830 died 22 Dec 1842.
12 Caroline Elizabeth Josephine Stuart youngest daughter born 31 May 1837 at Lisdhu. She
married Captain William Cole-Hamilton at Cappagh Church on 10 Jun 1858. William was
the eldest son of Major Cole Hamilton of Beltrim, Co Tyrone. William died in
Bournemouth on 26 Nov 1882. Caroline died on 23 May 1930 in Cheltenham.
