Hewat family of Ardlui, Blackrock
William Hewat of the Provincial Bank of Ireland married Sarah Duxbury in Edinburgh on
13.08.1835. Sarah died 08.06.1871 at Mount Pleasant Square, Dublin and William died on
21.05.1874 at Weirhill Terrace, Melrose, Scotland.
1 Thomas Duxbury Hewat born circa 1838 2nd son of William Hewat married Alice Jane
Hendric 2nd daughter of Hugh Hendric of this City on 11.09.1862 at the Scotch Church
on Adelaide Road. Thomas Duxbury Hewat joined Thomas Heiton in his Coal Company.
Thomas died on 21.07.1868 aged 30 years at Mount Pleasant Square the home of his
parents and Alice died on 09.09.1868 at Bloomfield House aged 24 years the home of
her father.
1 William Hewat only son born 31.12.1865. Both of his parents died when he was
only 2 years old. William married Annie born circa 1868 daughter of Ephraim
Parke Wheatley and Ann McDonnell on 16.11.1892 in Rathmines. William was
the Chairman of Heitons Coal and Steel Company from 1915 to 1935 having been
a director since 1900. He was also an independent member of Dáil Eireann from
1923 to 1927. William died on 15.05.1935 at his home Ardlui aged 70 years and
Annie died 07.04.1958 at Merrion Road, Dublin.
1 Annie Alice Duxbury Hewat eldest daughter born 17.08.1893. Annie
married Captain James Bell Hollwey R.F.A. younger son of Mr and Mrs
Hollwey of Ardfallen, Dalkey in June 1920.
2 William Evatt Duxbury Hewat born 19.04.1895.
3 Cecil Duxbury Hewat 2nd son born 31.08.1896 married Margaret Edith
Newland daughter of Mr and Mrs J L Newland of Rathgar and Reigate
Road, Ewell, Surrey at Ethelburgers Church, Bishopsgate, London on
30.04.1934.
4 James Cyril Duxbury Hewat 3rd son 08.11.1897 married Sheelagh Mary
Geraldine Shaen-Bingham of The Croft Pit, Farm Road, Guildford, Surrey
at Christ Church, Guildford on 25.07.1934.
5 Elspeth (Betty) Violet Duxbury Hewat younger daughter born 03.12.1901
of Northumberland Road married John Wise Wadham of the Devonshire
Regiment on 16.11.1926 in Dublin. Elspeth died in Malta 17.12.1928
aged 27 years.
